Would you possibly consider HOn30?  I know it's not prototypical, but there's an active modular group near your area.  Another possibility for scratching the itch.

Did someone say virtual trains?

Its honestly the best option for those without the money for model railroads like myself. There are some super high quality routes for free, along with a lot of nice payware for pretty cheap as well!

Another option would be at the CRRM. They've got a very active G scale group, including live steam. The layout is basically bring your key and operate when you want. The museum loves having someone there operating, of course. With that option, all you have to worry about is equipment. There's a whole team to maintain the layout.

Would a couple 2-3 dioramas scratch the itch enough? No ops, obviously, but an opportunity to do some actual modeling without spending an arm and two legs, and no need to worry about packing/trashing things with your next move.

Easy question for you Easterners. How does one pronounce Juniata? Is it June-e-ah-ta?

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks Dave. Just one of those things that I had always wondered about. Slow day I guess. Now, how does one pronounce Kato?  :D

Looks like you are enjoying Colorado. Bit of a different setting than Florida. Here is my first "railfan photo" taken by my mom in 1972 at Royal Gorge. That is my dad with his hands on his hips, and my brothers and sisters along the fence. I am the last on in the line along the fence in the shadows. Hard to believe 41 years have passed since then as I remember this day like it was yesterday. Have a good time making memories with your kids.

Best wishes, Dave

Ha! It's second nature to us. I called Caboose and ordered "Juniata Narrows" by item number. He confirmed the car name back to me and he stumbled over "juan-ah-... juan-ne-ah-ta." We joked about east vs. west railroads. Good times. Then I found five dollars.

No, I said "Ed's Law."

I don't think I was around these parts for the Kato pronunciation debate, but I did hear from a Japanese speaker that the long A sound is supposedly rare in Japanese language. Kah-toe is how they pronounced it.

I know that I started the joking about the great Kato debate, but I will feel guilty if we fill Dave's engineering report with a couple of pages of this.   ;)
Sorry!

Best wishes, Dave
