John, no, USAFA does not fall under Air Education and Training Command.  USAFA is a Direct Reporting Unit...  The 3-star Super reports to CSAF.  USAFA has its own faculty training process as well as academic ranks and " tenure."  As a PhD I start as Assistant Professor.

I wouldn't matter, because it's just to hard to accept the bright colors even if they were 100% correct.

Wow, that's pretty fantastic. I LOVE those colors, but that doesn't look like a western Pennsylvania fall. But it does look like a NE fall! And I'm sure that's what Popp was going for, but I'm just not a fan of those WS "clumps."

I have a feeling that's why Popp's scenery just doesn't quite work; real trees have foliage that's less dense, which results in less saturation and more variation in color for each tree. With more open foliage, the color will likely be more believable.

Construction on the basement starts today with frame-out.  Turns out after insulation and othe considerations the long dimension for the space is now 14'10".

The beer was fine, just that I usually only drink wheat and "fruity" beer during hot weather.

On the subject of autumn trees: I think that the the texture of the foam is much too coarse.  Using ground foam and ground up dead leaves put through a tea strainer might give a good look, when applied to Super Trees.  I'll have to experiment with it a bit to see how well it works.

Can you find a way to fit a double-length version of Walthers' Vulcan Manufacturing on the existing Juniata?  Tracks can be rearranged.

That depends on what you are willing to give up? Are you planning on just using the building or the canopy as well? My first thought was replacing the building across from the coal mine with the Vulcan Manufacturing building? If no, then you might have to part with a few of the downtown buildings across from the station?

Looking over the latest trackplan, there are a couple places where they could be shoe-horned in but at what cost to the rest of the layout?

Just thinking out-loud here... but maybe this would be a better addition on a new door-based layout or as an extension of the JD.

Well, I tinkered with this for a while, and about the only way I can see to do it might be kind of predictable and not especially imaginative. Caveats: I guestimated the size, so it could be off. It also probably involves bashing one corner in to clear the main.

After some thought I'm willing to give up the paper building I just added.  It's shoehorned against the mountain with an almost inaccessible siding.

I would consider whittling down the mountain to almost naught in order for something more appropriate to fit.  It would become Standard Steel.  Two tracks and the shed.  Thoughts?

Also, now that the wall footers are in for the train room, I really want to get away from the L shape and go with that U formation that DKS designed way back when.

Can it be done without destroying that now-popular steel girder overpass scene?

Since that's based on the yard, and since you've indicated the yard isn't doing it for you anymore, I might recommend going in a different direction, such as an asymmetrical U using 3 HCDs, like this--



I'm pretty sure this could be done without harming that overpass scene. And I think the existing Juniata could occupy any of the three spots.
