Thanks!  There's a thunderstorm sitting over my house, so it's a perfect excuse to keep cranking out Pennsy goodness.  Here I've weathered one of my M1bs using acrylic washes and chalks.  The glue in the coal load isn't yet dry, but that's the @davefoxx Hobby Lobby black craft sand trick.



Just for schnitzengiggles here's a comparison with a clean one...  I went heavy on the 6716 because they were filthy beasts in 1956, but I'm likely to go much lighter on the 6704.

Nice job on the FM flat weathering.  The weathering seems to hide the gaps / joints of the small piece in the deck very well.

Having a weathering attack today!  Did my K4s also.  The 1361 had a red cab roof and tender deck in 1956 so I fixed mine.  PRR paint specifications called for Freight Car Color (roughly an oxide red) on the tender deck and a 50/50 mix of FCC and DGLE (Brunswick Green) on the cab roof.  There's the @davefoxx black sand coal trick as well.

I've replaced all of my 1950s-era coal loads and tender loads with this black sand.  You can see the sparkle as the train goes by...oddly it looks more like coal in N scale than real crushed coal.

Sorry, shorted out my laptop from all the drool after watching that vid. I'm intrigued with those coal loads. How did you make them? Did you fill the cars with the black sand or use a drop in wood or foam block with the sand sprinkled on top?

Neither.  They all come with cheesy plastic loads (like the one in the Bowser hopper above).  I just glue coal directly on top of that.
