rolling stock search

i'm starting to plan my rolling stock needs based on known consists.

i need to pickup a bunch of B&O, Reading, and WM hoppers.  both 2 bay 55 ton fish belly and 70 ton quad bays.
i also need a dozen or so Lehigh Valley covered hoppers.

anyone have a source for these?

when is someone coming out with a 89' trailer flat that i don't need to build?  i need 2 dozen of them and building that many just seems loathsome at this point.

No such thing as a 70t quad for the WM.  The Bowser car is a foobie.  For 1967, you'll need to build a bunch of these:


66T H-21 and H-22 rebuilds.  I stretched Atlas fishbellies by two panels to get within about 18" of the prototype.  And I know where you can get the decals for a reasonable price. ;D

The 70T MDC car is a good stand in, but they're getting pretty rare.


Hopefully Athearn will do these again, maybe even before those silly N&W cars!

Atlas has done the 55T in B&O and CNJ.  You can still find them easy enough.

As Chuck said, a year to a year and a half and you might just have to 89'er's to choose from.

As far as  2 Bays. Atlas has Reading and B&O 2 bays offset sides in addition to the Fishbelly.

For correct B&O 2 bays you need to look at the Atlas offset sides and the various MT releases. The Atlas fishbelly is correct for B&O but very few actual cars. They were part of a lease fleet that was not very large and didn't last very long in service. The fishbelly is not a natural for B&O but an oddity.

Later years, offset side cars outnumbered all others. Early years, rib side cars were more prevelant. The war emergency hoppers were 42-early 50's.

The last run of Athearn B&O 3 bays are a pretty good car also.

My current B&O hopper fleet is somewhere around 150 and as new releases have been coming out, I have been replacing the mass of 55T Fishbelly's that I accumulated as fillers because they were what was available.
