When I first saw the post about Kato's JetRDC, I thought yeah right, lousy joke ...

Man, I gotta say the NYC JetRDC is a step backwards for N scale. At least maybe it will run at proto speeds. ::) Can I get it in Amtrak?

I'm trying to think of some other protos that could be equally goofy as this but this is hard to top.

Was there ever an Oscar Meyer Weiner Loco?

To me this is a waste of resources when Kato could actually be making stuff that rank and file modelers need.

Naw...  Kato got a taste of the "buy it, display it, show it off" crowd and realized they'll buy anything for the right price.  The cooler it is, the more they can charge.  Us "rank-and-file" model railroaders are not where the big bucks are.  The collector crowd is where the money is.

What I hate is when they do a prototype that appeals to both collectors and modelers, and the collectors hoard them.  It's their right, I know, but it's also my right to dislike that behavior.

They can make jet-powered RDCs all they want; I have no need or desire for them.  Like you, I hope that Kato remembers to crank out a few SDs now and then.  But then again, they're likely to be BSNF.

Kato just can't let Micro Trains have all the fun and collect all the revenue for "collector cars".... next will be "Locomotives that never caught on" series.....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Us "rank-and-file" model railroaders are not where the big bucks are.  The collector crowd is where the money is.

Hmmm, I was thinking the SD90MAC with cheese...

BTW, does anyone like those MT weathered cars? Geez, what will they do next to further limit the possibility of individualizing your rolling stock?

I hope they don't think that's what the proto-conscious, or what I have heard referred to as 'the real modelers', want. Personally, I'd rather they spend those dollars developing new body styles than creating weathering patterns. On a lighter note, will we eventually be discussing MTs weathering foobies?

Did N scale kits say anything about the f-39 flat they were working on???

I really want these cars but from what I have gathered and been told by Peter at N scale kits they are having problems trying to get the mold detail correct.
I hope they can figure it out  :P.
He hopes to have them out in the next few months.  He had samples of the main flatcar castings and they look very good.

Before you get too worked up about it, the NYC JetRDC are Kobo units that are being custom built, not normal production models.

If you guys haven't seen it yet, the video of the thing is worth a look...
