The Japanese North American prototype modellers seem to be much more oriented towards the modern equipment. The last time Kato did Southern was the E8 and corrugated passengers that almost seem like an eternity since they were released close arounf the turn of the century.

From the fron teh GEVO and AC4400 look the same, but the long hood has a few features that distinguish it from the AC4400.

I wonder if the GEVO is geared/slow-motored to match Atlas, or geared for Kato, or in a class by themselves????

Re: Grab Irons

>No they won't.  They will be included for those who wish to install free-standing grabs.  Where >do you come up with this stuff?

You're seriously implying that its crazy to ask if the grab irons will be factory installed?

So in other words, the models are delivered with NO grab irons unless I decide to DRILL DOZENS OF HOLES in the MODEL to finish it??

You're joking.

I like what I see so far from the pictures here and on TB. If the run like Atlas/Kato and do the CSX unit correct for tha AC and the DC I will probably get every number FVM does plus one of the KCS Southern Belle ones because I really like that scheme and maybe a CP BC Olympic unit if he does those as well.

But the real question is with that mech when are the -9 and AC44 comming out ?

Agree.  I'll probably never get to install them, so I would prefer to either have them "on", or good cast grabs aren't a problem to me.

Atlas has a few "key" wire grabs, and the rest are well cast on, which works well for me.

Don't start the "RTR Guy" stuff. I just have enough projects on my list, that putting on grabs and painting if needed, will be at the bottom of my list.

I'm a runner, so mechanism performance is first in line, and some details are "last" for me.

Most of the latter units do not have the grabs on the side of the long hood, they do have the nose and rear though

I'm not questioning your wish that grabs be factory-installed.  I'm calling attention to the fact that you make these absolute statements as if you were involved with the decision-making process when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Bryan,

First of all, as a "manufacturer",  you really ought to be more careful about insulting potential customers.

Second of all the tone of my post was amazement and disbelieve, as in, "they couldn't be crazy enough to sell a $100 model and expect most buyers to take a pin vise to it and drill 4 dozen tiny holes and then glue little pieces of metal smaller than an eyelash onto the shell."

What I was doing, was rhetorically supporting FVM as being smarter than this, and implying that you and the others who said this were wrong.

Is that clear enough for you now?

...imagine a BC Rail or CN C44-9W with the right shell w/o the AirCondition (maybe even a CN version with the four windows cab) GREAT !  ;D ;D

...which in my opinion is a big step into the right direction ! have you ever carved off some molded on grab irons to replace them with wire ones ? how ugly does that look and it is nearly impossible to match the right color to hide the carved off parts - dimples for those about to put them on - best thing since sliced bread... way to go Matt !

I like the dimple idea, it's a lot easier to get them straight - Big UPs to Matt!

I love the dimple idea I don't know how many times I've had to fill in the holes for wire grabs cause I didn't get them straight...

Except Bussey has a history of being correct.  You were pretty vocal about a "one man show" not having the resources to develop an engine, and then tell everyone that the grabs will be factory installed... you're close to striking out.  I'd be careful about implying that everyone who said they were not installed is wrong.  Those are the very people who have a reputation about being right.

Besides, the people who won't be installing the grab irons probably won't care that there arn't grabs to begin with.  And the modelers will enjoy the advancement.
