Why is it necessary to take a shot at MTL to defend your design?

Joe, it's not a shot against MTL, he's just telling what we all know anyway...   ;)

Mike, not exactly sure what you're referring to...

I tested a random 36 car set on a friends layout and they run without a single derailment for hours.  Have you even tried running them, or are you just ASSuming there is a problem?

If you're converting to Micro-Trains, you will have to use their provided shim; this will lower the bolster due to their un-prototypically high coupler box (hence the reason all of their cars ride so high).  That said, had we made the bolster lower (ie., to accept Micro-Trains trucks/couplers), we would have taken a ton of flack for "un-prototypical ride height", and rightly so...

I'll end with......  Just wait, jussssttttt wwwaaaaiiiittttt      ;)

Priceless.   :)

So what you have to swipe a file across the bottom of the ends so the coupler box will swing?  Big whoppidie-do.  :P

I think Mike just doesn't have flat enough track work  ;D

Yeah, I guess Robbman and FVM are even now.  A swipe of the file to fix the coupler box, or a swipe of the file to fix the end ribs of a boxcar.  Seems about right.

Design
compromises are a fact of life in Nscale.  If y'all feel so strongly we can probably arrange a steel cage battle royale death match sometime this summer...

Who needs a steel cage? Just do what Uwe Boll did - http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.12/ragingboll.html. There are a lot more boxing rings around than steel cages, and we can get this settled sooner and get on with the business of modeling.

However, as much as I hate to defend Craig, he was just speaking fact. Then again, I can't wait to hear him when someone picks his cars apart with a magnifying glass and calipers... muwahahahaha. (That being said, if he comes out with a better looking and operating, yet affordable, N scale coupler alternative to MT and the others, I may have to change my tune.  :'(  )

Who's fighting and name calling?  Besides, having lurked on this forum for awhile, it seems there's a lot of fighting and name calling going on here on a regular basis, that seems to be the charm of it all. I recall the term "douchebag" used a lot in an earlier postings :)  I ask a valid question and folks expect some "battle royal" or a cage fight...I'm not here for that.  I joined this group to learn more about Eastern Roads...specifically Conrail so I could suggest more interesting schemes to Marketing. From the PM's I got I knew I was going behind the lines so to speak, but so far it's been a good experience.  I'm a Western RR/Rock Island guy and what I don't know about stuff on the Eastern side of the Mississippi would fill several books.  So I'm here to learn as much as I can...Mike, if I am making you uncomfortable being here, that wasn't my intent.

Cheers

Joe

Agreed.  So may I ask - Joe, what do you think of the idea of an "adaptive" bolster that uses a shim (or whatever) so that the car height can be adjusted for whatever truck/couplers are desired?  Drilling and filing gets old in a hurry, so I can honestly say that I would buy more cars with a feature like that.  In fact, it would be a difference-maker.

So to me this sounds like a win-win for everyone, but maybe there is some part of this that I've overlooked?

Thanks,
Ed
