Broadway Limited oopsie.

So, someone just mentioned to me that BLI screwed up the cab windows on the E8's.  Those side windows look distinctly like they should be on an E7...  When are we going to get a pitchfork and torches smiley?   :D

Of course I'm pretty sure the SOUTHERN version won't have those tanks on the roof (still better than kato's I bet).

skibbe,

I think what your seeing or should say NOT seeing is that BLI has the small vent window
frame cast onto their window glazing. What needs to be done is that small upright on the
glazing needs to be painted Armour Yellow. As far as being an E7 window, they should be
the same as an E8.

I think what you're seeing or should say NOT seeing is that an E7 window does not equal an E8 window.

Thanks for playing, better luck next time.   :P

So it's your choice; wrong windows or wrong nose profile.  ;D

Warning, warning! Rock Island engines should never be used for "photographic evidence" as the Rock was notorious for replacing parts off anything onto anything. I purused the Frisco book, and have trouble pinning it down solid. UP E-8's photos are even more ambiguous. Not found that many "straight-on" side shots that aren't looking up somewhat at the engines, which distorts things just enough to make it very hard to be 100% certain on every unit's windows. I think the BLI window is too wide, but I'd like builders blueprints AND optional equiptment lists for E-8's before burning BLI at the stake. Pre-21st Century, it was possible to crawl all over locomotives in certain locations and nobody gave a hoot. Doing this, I found more differences in GP-38-2's on the UP, Frisco and BN than I thought the EMD catalog listed. I guess really, since steam engines, all locomotives have been built to the customer's "spec's", and our "Phase I, II and III" designations are really just some external spotting "features", and may (and do) get changed during the engine's service life. Even the hundreds of UP SD-40-2's had differences in them as they were shopped or rebuilt.

We are luckey to even have the BLI E-8/9 diesels how many years has it been since they were promissed and now a better decoder has been used so they are no longer Precission Craft (a name they would like to forget) and are now BLI because of the use of a BLI LOC decoder. I had to phone (a hard thing to do) Pete at BLW and have him search through his computer records of my back orders to confirm that I still had a 3 unit UP loco on order. Since the Union Pacific locos do come with the distinctive snow shields on the roof there there is hope that maybe Southern locomotives might have the roof top torpedo tube air tanks. Next up more Alco PA's heaven forbid, just what we need more of. Could the PRR. M1a steam locomotive really stop being Vaporware or the N&W  coal hoppers. I wonder?                              Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.

Seriously?  If I was wrong, Robbman would be in here in a second to blow it apart.  Rock Island swapped lots of parts that were interchangeable, my favorites are hood units with mis-matched doors...  But I guarantee they didn't cut and weld new openings for different cab windows just for the heck of it.

Pull up any E8 photo and look at the space between the door and the cab side window.  The E8 window is also taller, reaching all the way up to the drip strip.

I'm happy to be proved wrong if other information is out there...

The windows look small, and door looks short, and the nose contour looks good it's the angle of attack, it looks to shallow of an angle (yes I know the passenger pilot may make it look this way, but I bet if we measured it, it's wrong!).

Here is a comparison of the E7 and E8 CB&Q units:

It doesn't matter.  I'm keeping my Kato E8's and my LifeLike E7.  PCM/BLI or whatever they decide to call themselves is not a player in my game.
