Weekend Update - 6/14/2009

I had some Railwire folks over yesterday to run some trains.

John, Tim Nixon (POVC), Lee Weldon (wm3798), Gary Hinshaw, and Eric Payne(Seusscaboose). Rob Madson (Zox), Brian Carhart (Rock GP40) and PC Carl (Choochin3) were there earlier. Ed was decidedly not there.

I discovered I need to add another booster on the lower level. Once Tim (POVC) put his sound equiped locos on the layout, the DB150 powering the lower level started to heat up, probably due to the large number of engines on the layout .. so we suffered some thermal shudowns.

A big thanks to John for hosting us and letting us run all our foreign-road crap on his pike.   Things ran very smoothly, except when I tried to take a stack train up the helix... Somewhat reminiscent of this scene:

I had a great time and came away with fresh motivation to plow ahead with my layout plans.  Thanks again John!

I have found myself increasingly drawn to the dual-era concept.  I already have a model of the Amtrak California Zephyr, which my wife and I rode on our honeymoon.  I also spent most of my college dorm life overlooking the Philadelphia 30th St. coach yards.  I have ridden in the AmTubes, as well as the Acela (a project which I watched go through testing).  Add to that the entire concept of my altered history, that the Pennsylvania survived to the modern era.

With all that being said, here are my first two modern locomotives, fresh from the shops.

As much as I love the PRR, every time I see this shot, I hear the Imperial March from Star Wars...

This shot gives a good overview of the paint scheme.

9510 and 9502 lead an intermodal through Altoona.

These two were an adventure, but I am generally pleased with the results.  They have also given me models (in the photography sense) to update my railroad's website (http://www.eric220.com/).  I have finally removed any danger have having to scream, "fair use" with my graphics.

My other joy for the week was the arrival of my PRR GS4 (44 Tonner for the non SPF).

Got to fire up the old teakettle for a photo freight special on the M&O.  Great fun!  I'm also looking forward to seeing the camera car video shot by Zox.

Good to see everyone again.  Even though Ed wasn't there, we all know that Ed was really there...

I'm having a hard time telling what part of the layout that is.  ;)

Well I finally got over my broken #80 bits. Two months of no modeling cured that...  Construction may resume someday, if not I'll just sell what is started to Skibbe.  :-*

I didn't know you were selling, and usually I just bug Chris because he throws stuff out.

How much for this?
