Asarge, I like your dark horse picks, although I can't see DI being a contender for the locomotive market yet.  That narrows it down to two in my book.

I think you folks are thrown off by the ad...

Forget about it - I am sure it's intent has nothing at all to do with this discussion. If it did - there would have been a URL (you can buy one that is completely untraceable - I've done it for early preemptive buyouts of domain names for clients). or a Twitter handle or something. That ad is "internet agnostic". No one expected this discussion.

If NSR was intended to be out for the NSC, the ad was intended probably for that audience.

As for the rest of the small players - I would be amazed if it's one of them. I already went over this - service, design, electronics, parts sources - it's an entirely different game than freight cars.  For a razor thin profit margin - who is going to take that risk?  Who will lend them the money when there is a trail of fiascos out there?  Who has the cash flow from large runs of product to justify loans???  Who has a track record delivering time after time on complex projects?

On top of that, this is the bread and butter market for Atlas/Kato. It's really the LAST chance to cash in on a modern loco for years - since there is nothing newer and everything else has been done that makes sense to do.  I have to admit Andy has a point with ExactRail - they have $$$ and experience.  Not so sure they are as interested in N scale though...

Enough of my ranting!

I don't think I'm being thrown off by the ad at all.   ;)  I would be very surprised if this were an Athearn, Atlas or Kato project.  My money is on a smaller, established, high quality and very reliable manufacturer that has personal experience in this area.  Attention to detail and a wide range appeal of the company's products is part of their reputation.  I own many of the products produced by the company I'm betting on.  Time will tell shortly.   8)

There has been interesting analysis in this very civilized thread and some good reasoning.  I just think that Asarge is on to something, and I agree.  It all makes perfectly good sense to me now.  Of course a lot of things made sense to me in the past, where it turned out I was wrong.

14 Pages and NO melt-downs nor name calling. So it CAN be done ....

Eat your heart out Atlas.

Your momma wears combat boots.   :P

And the rest of you....your guesses are ABSURD!  It's so obvious that it's LBF.

Ahhhh, this feels much better now.  Meltdown anyone?   ;D

The more that I think about it, the more I think that it'll be a joint venture between Atlas and Kato.

They both have their strong points, and they have "history"
A "western modeler" that also runs NS.

I'll go out on a limb and predict it won't be Kato or Atlas or BLI...

This has certainly been one of the more entertaining threads to read in quite a while.

Ah, of course - MTH

That would be so far out of left field! I sure hope not! Con-Cor......would be an even bigger darkhorse than DI. But still a teeny-tiny possibilty. Course TrainCat could be playing Agent-Provocateur........naaahh!

Is this the longest/largest thread ever posted here?  Has been fun reading all this.
