Upcoming MTL Heavyweight

Did anybody see the new issue of N Railroading yet? In the N Horizons section they had a blurb that said the first MTL Heavyweight would be the RPO based on a GN car with copies built by PS and ACF. Should be out in October according to Kirk Reddie. I thought they were going to introduce four cars at once, but an RPO would be very good.

Ditto.  But, what are the chances?  So many prototype drawings exist at the Pullman Library and elsewhere.  They have the Branchline HO cars, which were painstakingly researched, to copy.

But, it'll probably end up like the SP caboose and be based off some error filled published drawing in a magazine.  My guess would be some Harold Geissel drawing from an old RMC.

I don;t know about their dimensioning situation, but since most N scale models seem to have some kingd of ride height issues with somebody, I would have to say this will also.

I don;t know about their dimensioning situation, but since most N scale models seem to have some kingd of ride height issues with somebody, I would have to say this will also.

All the passenger cars I own from quite a large selection of makers are pretty close in height (within reason).

Of course it will be wrong - everything in n scale is always wrong....right ? ;D

The RPO is an interesting choice for the first car to be released; I'd have thought a passenger revenue car would be more popular but perhaps not....

RPO's and Baggage cars could run the gamut of era's as most railroads didn't phase them out with Streamlined cars. Many rarilroads never bought streamlined headend cars at all. So I think this or a baggage car isn't such a bad first choice. C&O or L&N would make me a very happy camper.

I agree, but I'd have preferred a full baggage; but, it's a HW so I'll be looking forward to seeing what they deliver !

Will the care be a full RPO, or the more common baggage/RPO combo?

The down side is that the mail car will be based on the USRA design, which is not all that common.  Only around six lines or so (based on actual RR diagrams) were owners of this type of car, though if a baggage car is eventually done it is possible that the RPO can be kitbashed into a couple of baggage - mail.

You're not going to get EVERY different correct version of an RPO done for all the roads. Nor are you going to expect that many roads won't get done JUST because it's not 90% accurate. My guess would be yeah there will be some that are pretty close and then some that are straight out foobies but they can sell them anyway.

Ok; so now I am really confused......I have to believe that there are more common RPO's; nevermind baggage/express cars...
