All photos taken in Gainesville, GA, on December 28, 1956.

Much steam locomotive repair work took place outdoors and with minimal tooling. This photograph shows a hardwood fire built in the fireman's side cylinder of Russian Decapod 206. The purpose? To expand the cylinder enough to get the piston rings in!

If you hung three single compression air pumps on the side of your model loco, some nitpick would say "railroads never done that", and he'd be wrong, because the Gainesville Midland sure did on 2-8-0 No. 301:

Don't know its origin, but GM 307 was a mighty fine looking caboose!

Next week, maybe more GM.

Central Square , NY 2009-6-8 Route 11 Southeast of Lake Ontario . Didn't know this was here , wife spotted it while cruising the hood . The old O&W line was perpendicular to the NYC tracks as a 1948 map confirms though I can't prove the crossing and this station is exactly at the same exact place as original , but it probably is .

I may have shown this in the past (apologies) but this time I scanned & tried to clean it up a
bit. One of only a couple photos I have of mainline steam, taken again with a pocket cam on a nasty
day in May of 1989 of N&W #611 heading back to Brewster after a fan trip:

I seemed to have terrible luck back then with catching steam. The 1st time I tried to catch NKP
#765, it broke down to the east & was towed back to Orrville by a diesel well after dark. The 2nd
time I WAS able to catch #765, I lost the camera with the film still in somewhere. When #611 ran,
each day was dark & rainy, & this was the best pic. I hope some more steam fan trips run this way
in the future, as I'll be ready this time. (I hope)

Some action at St Denis last Sunday.

I just found some slides taken in England in 1985.  I'll post them when I can get them processed.
