These are the last of my Newark Subway photos and the last mounted in my trolley album.
PSTC PCC 19 at the outer end of the subway line. Understand it has been extended since this was taken Jan 26, 1957:
Another shot of 19 as it exited the underground section of the line and entered the only grade crossing:
The motorman of PCC 22 was proud of his steed and posed in front of it in the classic interurban motorman pose back in May, 1956.
I will definitely not be participating next week as I will be in the hospital for surgery to fix my problems with fluid on the right lung. And I'll have to decide where to start. I've got several hundred good photos in glassine envelopes somewhere around here. Both steam and traction.

Speaking of that Opal. If you think that some of the CRHS guy are crazy chasing, you should have seen some of the driving that Paul (the owner of the Opal) used to do when we used to chase.

From this past weekend at the CRHS RBQ, and the following day in the rain (while I
wasn't
on the phone with work...ugh):
Gonzo (and I) gave Dave Vollmer the royal treatment on a chase from one side of HBG to the other. When NS lets blue lead, you GOTTA chase it!
Here we got him at the west end of Rockville at CP HIP:
And then a few minutes later, on the OTHER side of the river, rolling through Lucknow:
Not pictured is the part in the middle where we scared the CRAP outta Dave when the STI broke loose getting off the blocks at Rockville. Also missing are the shots of the train at CP HARRIS, since my camera mis-metered (you only have a split second to get the shot off on these chases) and it was way too under-exposed. This is the only shot I got off after Lucknow, through the wing of the STI as we were getting ahead of him.
Another random photo. NS sent us another blue unit head out. We saw him at the BBQ and headed back to the bridge to shoot him again:
The next day we set off for Altoona in the rain. We never got that far, but did have a good time.
Shooting black diesels is so-so in the rain, so I think this may actually be my favorite shot of the day (in the vein of Bob's Opel shot):
I've actually had decent luck at Lewistown. Here we got an EB train with a real mixed bag of power. Of note was that it seemed like the VRE unit in there was actually online. And yes, that's rain.
Now heading west, a two-fer of a Blue C40-8W:

Also at the Rail B Q. This is the train that Sean et al went willy-nilly to chase. Dave Foxx and I were able to shoot it at a much more reasonable pace as it worked its way out of the yard throat. It was like shooting ducks in a barrel.
Andy also took his railfanning more casually, poking a stick in the river as Norfolk Southern moved the commerce of the nation across the Susquehanna.
Later, Dave and I did some field work, wandering into the prancing pony's natural habitat. Near CP Mary at the west end of the bridge, I captured this westbound rolling out of Enola.
We also boldly poked our heads into the lair of the elusive Pennsy Centipede, but alas, it remains extinct...
Best day of railfanning I've had in a long time. Thanks for inviting us up, Ed.

It was rainy all day, but I wanted to go for a drive. I found another chunk of Youngstown, OH disappearing. This bridge:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=qvf4pf88dgnq&style=b&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=24530994&encType=1
Is being replaced. They are working on new piers now.
The short silver section to the left was where a 42" gauge steel mill railroad passed under.
The whole thing is on a curve.
Another big pic:

What's the deal? Are they eliminating the box truss to gain clearance for doubles?

I dunno I do have a bunch of pic of single stacks on this line, but one does show double stacks already. I think they are just older than dirt. ???
I also have a pic with a pair of B&O E8s crossing it in 1966.
