We went back to Niagara Falls, NY, on Sept 18, 1964, for more photographs of the Niagara Junction. Yes, when Conrail took over the NiaJ it took down the catenary and sent the modern steeplecabs to Harmon, converting them to NYC underrunning third rail and using them on commuter trains. One appeared in the movie about Malcolm X.

GE Steeplecab 17 with a freight on the main line.

Steeplecab 19 switching by the Hooker Chemical plant. Hyde Park Blvd. yard in the background.

Shot of NJ 19 from a different angle with same cut of cars.

Next week, more shots of 19 switching.

Santa Fe NM.

This is the Santa Fe Southern railways new paint job.

The SFS runs a daily mixed passenger/freight train from Santa Fe to Lamy, where the Santa Fe Branch connects to the mainline.

The Lamy depot.

With my poor camera still dead, I can only relate a recent sighting verbally.  I had to go up to Baltimore for a grant meeting, and it was held in an office in the Mt. Clare Jct. plaza there next to the Beano Museum.  As I'm getting out of my handsome white City of Cambridge SUV, I hear an air horn, then the rumble of a diesel...  Then coming into view on the B&O Museum's track, is an SD-35 in original B&O paint, along with a Chessie gp-somethingorother that looked pretty freshly painted.  Obviously both now part of the museum fleet.

While the Chessie engine made me spit up a little in my mouth, the B&O SD was a vision to behold.  It was weathered just right, as if Tom Mann had traded in his Bragdon Powders for real road grime....  I don't think I've seen a living breathing SD-35 in 20 years... maybe more.  The SD was numbered 7402, which is one of the numbers Atlas has announced this week...  Verrrry tasty.

Here's the last ones I recorded... with the 110 instamatic at Shenandoah Jct. on the Beano main in the winter of 82-83.

a couple of images of Calcutta's trams taken in 1979 and 1983 respectively

plus a Bombay commuter train in 1988

Geez.  When I lived there, you could have bought most of Jefferson County for 550K...
