Annapolis Junction & St Denis Today

Too nice a day to stay inside so I did a little railfanning.  Here's one pic taken just west of Annapolis Junction.  Found it at a gravel co and no one around:

Later at St Denis someone mentioned that he thinks it's an ex LV unit.  I'll post other photos on Thursday.

Bob,

Did you catch the Waste Management units on the other side of Rt. 32?

Check the Proto Photo site.  Got the WM GP nose stick out the door.  Didn't see the EMD switcher.  The walls around their facility are higher than the nearby state prison walls.

I believe that's because their liability insurer made them go the extra mile of security against identity thieves. No one cares if one more inmate makes it out. Less tax payer money being spent...

Cool, thanks. Those USWX cars are of a design I've never seen before. Much more somber paint scheme than the WM green cars. But the last time I looked the WM cars were looking a bit ragged, having first discovered them when they were brand new when the facility first started ops. I've always been curious about that facility though, considering the cars are hauled such a relatively short distance into VA. It seems like trucks would do the same thing for the same price. Bite my tongue...

the Emerald Express as the train is called runs twice a day to Sealston, VA.  it's a pretty high priority train.

Right, 'non-stop' trash. What a concept. My (unresearched) assumption it's high priority is because there is a minimal amount of rolling stock dedicated to the service, and Marylanders through out too much crap.

Might also be because neither CSX nor WM want it to linger to long enough in one place so that everyone's "nose knows" its there.  ;D ;D ;D

I don't think the trash on board comes from Maryland...  I believe it's from the Garbage... er... Garden State...

wrong train Lee.

the Emerald Express is the twice a day Sealston to Annapolis Jct and return trash run.  the evening symbol used to be K276, not sure what it is these days.  the trash comes from all over the area, including the U of M at college park.

we could really save a step and just take the containers from China and just dump them in the landfills.

Considering so many students @ UMCp (@ least when I went there) were from Jersey, Lee's not far off.

Nice shot, one of our US offices is a stone's throw from Annapolis Junction. Still trying to be reassigned there... :-\
