CONGRATULATIONS TOM!

I respect your weathering/photography skills and I hope you sell lots of books!
It takes a lot of TIME and WORK and FOCUS to do what you've done.  :)

Jeff (MrKLUKE)

Thanks Jeff.  It took a lot of work - more than I thought (something like 1600 photos were taken for the book).  I also had to learn InDesign and layout techniques.  I'm glad it's finished but it was a lot of fun!

You need to do this like George Sellios does. Dec 08 MR pg14. "Only 700 kits will be made" (he always sells out his kits and usually pretty quickly!)  Well the kit is $280 plus $15 shipping. So that is $196,000.00 on this one kit.

So maybe add "limited edition"  ;)

Over 40 years ago, a man named John Allen (perhaps you've heard of him) had the world convinced that he was doing fine-scale modeling in 1:400 scale.  He even had photos to prove it.  His trick, of course, was that he made an oversize ruler and placed it next to his HO-scale models.

It is obvious that Mr. Mann has similar talents, except that instead of relying on tricks of photography, he has turned to Photoshop and similar computer-based tools.  Those photos in his Picasa album are of 1:1-scale rolling stock.  He has skillfully used his PC to remove the natural backgrounds, paste in Kadee couplers, and thicken the ironwork in a supreme effort to best Mr. Allen.

Come on, Mr. Mann!  You can't fool us!

 ;)

In some photos of Z scale models, I would place a coin so folks could appreciate how small the models are (an HO guy suggested that).  So one day, I see this novelty penny about 5 inches across and I get to thinking...

No sooner does someone achieve what others could only wish for...when another comes along out of envy and poo poos the proof of some else's work.  Wow!  Kinda sounds like the Russians claiming they invented the potato to me.

Yuk,

Mike

Didja miss that  ;) , Mike?

I guess I have accomplished my mission.  Thanks for playing the fall guy.

Envy?  My gosh.  My copy is on order, and I'm standing in line to learn from the master.

By the way:  it was my great-grandfather who invented the potato.  He was Lithuanian.

Mine came today too!  Pre-weathered no less:  ;D

Irony of ironies.  To add insult to injury, my wife is a mail carrier and her reaction was: eh.   ::)

I think we owe a shout-out to David Smith for making a professional out of Tom.  ;)  Truly a fine piece of work that I'm looking forward to learning a lot from.  Congratulations!

Yea it's fine, just a bit mushed in the corner but fully intact.  Thanks for asking.

I've had a chance to thumb through it a bit now: the content is outstanding Tom!

Added: I should point out that I generally have very good luck with USPS (my wife isn't making me say this  ::)), and stuff from Chuck usually arrives within minutes of placing the order  8).

I got mine in the mail today, I must say it looks AWESOME!  I'll check it out this weekend, in between working on The Whistle Post's traveling car...

I'll post a review on Model Railroad Forums in the reviews section as well.

Even though I highlight more dislikes then likes, the book still does not fail to deliver.  I just read it cover to cover!

Tom, I hope the review is not to candid for you!  I really like the book.  Great work!  I wish more books were like this, and not that republished crap that Kalmbach passes off.
