Is AMSI still in business? They had a wider variety of more realistic foam colors. They're primarily a supplier to architects.

There's at least a half-dozen ground foam suppliers, including some of the bigger European names like Noch. Scenic Express represents a few, and then there's Sweetwater, IIRC, and I think JJT Trees and/or SAMtrees sell ground foam, as well as some others. I'm away from my scenery link list at the moment, so I'm struggling with vague, faulty memory at the moment.

Out of the Woodland Scenics ground foam, probably Medium green for the first.  The Dark green is really dark, probably too dark.  If you branch out to Scenic Express, their Hazy Green might be a bit closer.  Don't underestimate the power of spray paint to tint the trees... I've been having some good results lately with some Rustoleum camoflage colors, they've got a great camo green color that works great to add shadows to the foliage of a medium green tree.  Also works well to tone down and blend in some of the more exotic static grass and clump colors, making them more earthy and closer to late summer color scheme.  Spray cans are fine, the foam will just soak up the paint... just make sure it's a dead flat paint.

For the second photo, WS light green is probably too light, but the closest.  Paint is your friend.

If you leave out a loaf of bread for a couple weeks you'll get something very close to those shrubs.


You could probably just DIY with a blender, water, some foam and some dye/paint.

The key is "similar".  I've seen a lot of modelers attempt this with dis-similar colors and end up with checkerboard trees and scenery.  Nothing looks worse.  I think the best is the large scale paper "leaves" that are light on one side and dark on the other.  I don't know how you apply them so the correct side is up though...
