Rail joiners

I was just wondering what are the best rail joiners for Micro Engineering flex track I purchased
their code 55 insulated rail joiners and they don't seem to work to well. Maybe because I painted
my track before hand I got them on but they seem leave to large of a gap between the rails.
Should I maybe use the good ole metal code 55 rail joiners by Atlas??

I'm using ME Code 70 and have had no problems with the insulated rail joiners in those locations where a gap is necessary, like turnouts. No problems either with the ME metal joiners everywhere else. I usually solder these as well There is a gap in the insulated joiners, but it's no thicker than a credit card. Glue the CC piece in and trim to rail shape, which is what many use to keep gapped rails from touching.
