I'm just kind of amazed (and gratified) at how the water color matches what I used on my bridge module... :)

That scene does look like it could fit on a door, but you'd definitely need additional room for a staging yard to feed it.

Your endabblements in Z scale would no doubt work to your advantage on such a project...

That is the former FMC plant in Portland, OR.  It was eventually Gunderson and now Greenbrier.  That is the plant where they built the famous FMC boxcars, covered hoppers and Woodchip cars.  It is also known for heavy logging equipment like tower yarders and shovels.  They also build barges there, thus the big sliding ramp into the river.
It is also the plant where Gunderson, now Greenbrier builds husky stacks and other well cars.
I have had several contracts with this plant for the construction of railcars in the past and hopefully in the future.

That's more or less how I'd envisioned one might build it, something like Dave Vollmer's layout, with a staging yard extension.

No doubt! (Except MR would then probably not be very interested.)

This is very good information to have. (Nice not to have to do all kinds of research to figure out what the heck it is.) Thanks!

This location looks as if it would fit, almost in its entirety, on a door...

David,

Agree that is an interesting site. I am curious to see how you would go about doing a door layout. Would you include the large buildings in the center? Seems to me the open yard would be rather uninteresting if that was the whole center scene.

All that track running in and out of those building made me think it was some kind of car shop. Plus all those stack cars lying around. This is great info, thanks!

Now if someone modeled the FMC/Gunderson/Greenbrier plant they would have a great excuse to have scads of rolling stock.

Not that I am advocating scads of rolling stock or trying knock anyone off the wagon  ;)
