My other project for the weekend .. roughing in the flood loader .. I used 1 inch pink styrofoam for the roadbed, laminated into two layers with hot glue .. seems to hold together pretty well .. the black paint is the roadbed .. the black painted area toward the back will be a road ..

No, the Randgust 70 tonner actually starts very slow and smooth. 

The reason it starts so fast in the YouTube movie.... I had one hand on the camera and other on the
throttle, and I was trying to keep the camera steady and focused on Randy's loco while
trying to find the throttle by feel...... 

So it's an 'operator induced' fast start, not the loco's fault.    :-).

That has to be one of the most realistic model shots I have ever seen , regardless of scale .

C'mon guys, Rich's shot is the perfect example of better modeling through peer pressure (the unofficial motto of Railwire, right?).  The loco is mighty fine, but the weathering on the boxcar in tow deserves serious study as well.  Nice!

Nothing from me this week - way too much work and travel lately, though I'm not complaining...  ;)

New Zealand Rail was sold back in 1993 to a private investor. in 2008 the government needed to get rid of some money (election in November and they wont get reelected again) so they bought it back for 600 and something million dollar ! since the 1st of July 2008 we have also a new name and a new livery for our trains...

...the model is a modified Atlas ALCo C628 (yeah I know, totally wrong, wrong gauge, wrong model, so what... ;) ) I did paint this engine based on a drawing which was released to the public on the 1st of July.

Here's a confession - the first time I shot this I was about to post when I saw one of the handrails wasn't fully seated. I knew I'd get ripped a new one so I went back, fixed the handrail, and re-shot  ;D

One thing I don't like is the headlight, looks a little jarring when unlit. Gotta do something about that, I don't know if silver paint around lens will be good enough.

Well, here's a quick shot from last week, after playing around with the camera some more.  Tail end of a northbound stack train passing a manifest in the hole.  Alas, the illusion is completely shattered by the background (and some aspects of the foreground), but C'est la Vie.

Can you provide a little more detail on how you re-fitted the LL fuel tank on that VO?  I'd like to fix mine in a similar manner...
