Been working on the Sanger section of The SP West Side Line. The citrus packing plant is coming together. It is one
scratchbuilt section and the DPM truck/transfer kit. The curve to the far right is the mainline to Kerman from Fresno
on the other side of the layout. There will be plowed fields and olive trees around the curve. Going to use courdory
for the fields per some tips from Tivo. Also joined the SP Yahoo Groups discussion board.

Rich, that's the most realistic model I've seen within years! So impressed I called my mom to my computer, and she asked me, "THAT'S A MODEL???" Great job. I have to say you seem to have combined Chris' amazing modeling skills with Tom Mann's knack for model photography! ;D

John, nice modern flood loader.

John Sing, thanks for the video of Randy's awesome-ness! I really think I have to have one now! :)

Steve, a continuation of your amazing painting skills, and who cares about out of gauge??? ??? The Alco Century makes it all better!

Jason, nice K-27!

Chuck, I have to say your shelf layout is an inspiration!  ;)

I am swallowing hard as I contemplate posting this evening after the volume of amazing stuff posted here tonight! But I must say that the shot by Ryourstone is both a great model and an impressive photo that helps to elevate the switcher to "non-model" status - as in it looks real even after some degree of examination....

Kiwi Rail is great too, btw. Love the design and colors!!

Anyway, here goes.... My most recent work on my diorama....

Thanks to all who post for the ongoing inspiration to keep at this modeling stuff!!

Rich, long time no see on the postings.   That's a seriously great shot.  I'll second the motion that the only way I was sure what scale it was came from your name....and then for a moment I was scared you'd defected to HO or O!

Thanks for the comments guys. I moved 4 times in the past 2 years but it's good to be settled in enough to do some modeling again.

Rich,
Can you provide a little more detail on how you re-fitted the LL fuel tank on that VO?  I'd like to fix mine in a similar manner...
Lee

I trimmed down the frame from the bottom of the contact strip slot down (basically just made tank area thinner, didn't cut everything off). The idea was that the top of the fuel tank could wedge the contact strip in place... this failed miserably, as did soldering it. Ultimately I came up with an even better solution, I drilled a hole vertically through the narrow flange that was the upper rail of the slot, and screwed the strip down to the top of the flange. Some minor bend adjustments it it works great, and is completely invisible from the side.

On to the LL tank... I cut the ends out carefully with a knife (don't razor the entire end off, or the tank gets too short). Filed the inside out a little then filled in the bottom end edge with .040 styrene. If you can to it, you might be able to just cut the end out about 2/3 down and avoid this step. This gets the tank fitting, but the air tanks are way too low. They need to get cut off and moved up so the brackets touch the bottom of the sill. The filler tube has to go because it's now in the way, it might be possible to reposition but I didn't bother. Maybe add a vent tube too. At this point I was at the 6-hour mark just working on the fuel tank and was ready to be done!

Here's my lot from the week

It will be a while before I start working on rolling stock and loco's

Not sure I'll be good enough compared to what I see being done around here.

Cheers Warren

Slowing working on my Amtrak Cascades set while I practice painting, applying decals, and weathering on my W&P locos.  I think this is going to be a big job, but will look pretty if I finish.

Mid day bonus shots with tripod up on a chair  ::)

BTW I tore out my whole "Niles, Ohio" around the walls layout/workbench and put a door in the middle with floor to ceiling shelves up on 2 walls, this is that layout. Hopefully it won't turn into my new workbench  :P

I was wondering how long it'd take you, Steve!  ;)

Rich, that picture is ridiculous and takes top spot on this interweb thingy over Lance Mindheim's pictures in terms of having to explain to people that it really is a model.  I had to point out the coupler to my wife before she believed me...

New Zealand Rail was sold back in 1993 to a private investor. in 2008 the government needed to get rid of some money (election in November and they wont get reelected again) so they bought it back for 600 and something million dollar ! since the 1st of July 2008 we have also a new name and a new livery for our trains...

We (Denise and I) are working hard in our efforts to ban the color pink:

The white spot is going to be a pond:

A long way to go:

Here's a shot of Denise's trestle table:

As you can see, we are finally making so headway in banning all pink on our layout.

Just got back in town so I'm posting late:

I spent last week installing a Micro-Tsunami sound decoder into a Walthers/LL 2-8-4 Berkshire.
It was a challenging install but worth the effort.
I'll be doing a detailed write up on the install to share soon.
And here's a link to where we're already discussing this: http://therailwire.net/smf/index.php/topic,16094.0.html

I just got back from Vacation (I hadn't touched a computer in 4 days... it was REALLY nice!) and wow, I'm reminded again why the Railwire rocks. There is a ton of awesome work being shown here guys.

I feel like such a slacker!

Hey Rich,

Nice loco, but what I really want to know about is the Reading boxcar!!

Have you seen the Intermountain FP7's yet?  A little disappointed on the green and yellow color, but nothing some weathering won't cure.  I got the shell to sit down on the mech much better, now I have to lower the fuel tank and get rid of those "lift rings".  I am starting to think that building a Kato one with my shell might be easier!

Finally got off my lazy rear and did some weathering on some equipment.  Here's a PRR cabin car I finished (got to add some glass to the windows).  Also finished some B60 PRR baggage cars, just have to add couplers.

so one of my first posts, here is what I have been working on.
My contract ran out with the Air force, so I am unemployed for a while, witch gives me some more time, so I was able to get this finished:

my Loggers are happy they don't have to walk from camp to camp now! I also modified the old B-mann old timer coach to be a little more represenative of some pics of Logging coaches from the area. I removed the vespule (sp) roof for a flat roof, lowered the ride height, and lowered the body on the frame to make it match with the "Logger mover"

Now comes the challange: Weathering, I have never done it, ever. and I have no idea where to start.  ??? any pointers?
