Got to say that although there is very little in the Atlas release I need I am "mucho" impressed with this month's Atlas efforts. The Magor vans are the answer to many a modelers plea - this shows that maybe someone is listening out there ? The single sheathed are always welcomed; the Geeps are cool - the P&LE edition is uber neat ! The hoppers are a nice offering and the HO annoucement of the first ever H600/H660 is a real item of interest. If they follow SOP's we could be in for an N scale version of this gem withing a reasonable amount of time - I never thoguht I see the early diesels; the "really" early ones but Atlas has made me eat those words....

Nicely done Atlas...........
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Someone Catch Me... I'm getting the Vapors...

Those PLE geeps... Hubba Hubba...

Looks like those single sheathed will have to be tucked away for Steam Night!

And I must say, I like those Magor's.  I hope the N model has some of the fine details shown on the HO...
Could an updated NE Steel be far behind??

And Brian will have to change HIS diaper when he sees this!

That would be great, but I think that Rock Island Geep is the HO version.

I am really excited about the release.  Now my late-40s steam railroad will finally have some appropriate steel cabooses to use!!!  Heck, I might even have to kitbash a couple of the Norfolk Southern RR's longer version as well.

I see some money going in that direction from me as well.  FINALLY, a caboose!

How late would these be seen on the rails?
On NS, definitely into the mid-70's.  Some may have made it into Southern paint.

But yeah, I almost creamed my pants over these and last month's hoppers.

Think you got it mixed up. The Pennsylvania Lines LLC was formed in 1998. And the P&R became the Reading Company in 1924.

Would either still be around in the 1940's?

Dave

I think all of the photos of the Geeps are HO models. Who cares, Atlas will do it right for N Scale.

The C & O cabooses I believe were used into the Chessie System era as indicated by one of the Atlas paint schemes. I had one of these cabooses a bizillion years ago, of course mine was an old old Kusan O Gauge toy train version, later upgraded and sold by K Line. My car was yellow with a red "K" inside a circle on one side only. I always liked the fact that it was a yellow center cupola car thak kind of resembled Union Pacific. Nate Goodman (Nato). Have to get an Atlas car to go with my LL C&O Berk.

Compare this thread to a typical one for a Micro-Trains release...

OK, a bunch of those Magor schemes are FOOBIES. ;)

VGN for one never owned these. But they are a nice stand in.

Hmmm, time to pick a C&O loco ... ;D

I sense that my Kato UNDEC cupola caboose is now surplus.

Yes, but unlike MT, Atlas is releasing this under the Trainman banner, which allows them the latitude to offer the foobie paint schemes.  They aren't pretending to be the Cadillac of anything.  They'll do the proto C&O cars, and hit them right out of the park, the other schemes are there to beef up sales with a lot of scattered singles.
I do agree with Ed that the CR version could have used an EL number, but that would have negated the PC car (which so far is offered only in HO)
To that I say, get some number decals and do what must be done.

When I got the email announcement from Atlas I told my wife to get her black dress cleaned; for I am surely going to die.  A Virginian caboose in N Scale!  And two road numbers!  Now I have seen everything.  I agree with NandW; it is a nice stand-in.  I had another shock when I realized this is the first Atlas N Scale car produced in the Virginian roadname. It has been a long wait.

Thanks, Atlas.
