On April 19, 1957, I first visited our nation's capital, and D.C. Transit was still running PCC street cars using a conduit underground system within the District.

PCC 1499 crosses the Mall, still in the Capital Transit color scheme.

PCC 1505, in the Capital Transit scheme, with old White buses in the new D.C. Transit scheme in the background.

PCC 1243, in the new colorful D.C. Transit scheme, crosses the mall.

Next week, trolleys at Edaville and a work motor on the South Brooklyn.

Wow, I can't imagine seeing trolleys running around the district today. It'd be great though!

I know there's still some track in the street around Georgetown with the crazy conduits in it. Wild stuff!

Great DC shots.  If you look hard enough you can still see vestiges of the old streetcar system.

Here's some Auto Train photos which I took on the same day of the photos I recently posted of the Northeast Corridor back in the 70's.

At Warren, OH passenger station 1961. The station is on the left, crossing shanty on the right.

Can you give us some info about that shot, and can we use it (with appropriate credit) on the CRHS site?

I managed to get in a pretty decent Gonzo chase this past Sunday...I knew a blue SD60 was coming west on 21T, and looking to the west was nothing but blue skies...so it was on after bagging it at Marysville:

A buddy of mine had suggested I head right to Newport for the shot there...but it was my intentions to beat him there anyway. He said he always goes for the one primo shot instead of 4 quickies...I like to think I came up with several primo shots. And with me burning premium, I need to maximize my shot-per-gallon ratio. But nonetheless, it's all about the thrill of the chase for me...so onward to CP-Banks, where I got trainf&%#@d by an eastbound, so next shot was Burley Road:

He had speed on me by then, so next available shot was the S-curve at Kinkora:

After this, it's decision time: hope he dogs it and head down into Duncannon and chase out towards Aqueduct to get to Newport, or stick on 11/15 to 322. He was hauling balls, so 322 it was, after stopping for the shot from the 11/15 bridge:

Once he got out onto the Middle Division, he really cut loose...those damn west fleas are freaking psychos. Newport was out of the question, but it wasn't hard to make it to Thompsontown (thanks to making a mockery out of the local speeding ordinances):

I was feeling frisky still, so I decided to attempt the chase west to Mexico. I didn't make it as quickly as possible, so I had to settle for a shot across the field while on-the-fly:

And in retrospect, the ONLY reason I didn't get the shot I wanted at Mexico was because I parked my car on the end of the bridge at Thompsontown, instead of leaving it sit on the bridge. So I lost about 30 seconds running my fat a$$ back to my wheels. Note to self: chases should involve as much STi as possible, with minimization of the tubby dude running...I'll get 'em next time. Here's the shot I did want at Mexico:

Sean,

That was SWEEEEET....!  A blue 60, and without the Q-logo to boot!  Gotta love seeing a narrow-cab blue diesel under a PL signal bridge...  Next best thing to Brunswick Green or Tuscan Red!

Thanks for the Conrail-injection.  I think I need to change my pants.

Dave,
If you think you need to change your pants from viewing his pictures, try riding in the car with him..... Ed will confirm....
Russ

PS. Don't have any pics from this week worth looking at, but the CRHS does have it's Dutch member coming for the convention this fall, so we made a video for him. There's come great CR Goodness in it.

Eh, riding with Sean isn't scary now that he has a car that can cash the checks his right foot is making. I think Russ just spent too much time in 'maros when he was younger :-)

Yeah, I have a much more refined way of breaking driving laws now. Too bad you'll never be up here to experience it...  ::)
