I've probably got at least a dozen of those cars in storage.  Didn't realize they were getting that hard to find.  I might be sitting on a small fortune!

When all is said and done, it's a $50 car, right?

Haha yeah something like that, when you add up the cost of the car, trucks, couplers, roof, decals. Especially since Rivarossi went out of business and the cars start getting harder to find. MDC used to sell the trucks but Horizon doesn't, so I watch for deals on express reefers. I think it was Klein's that had them for $3 each a few years ago and I stocked up. I also picked up 8 3-packs of coaches when Walthers was closing them out.

On top of that, CDS has halted production so whatever's out there is it. They are the only ones making lettering for RDG passenger cars. Jersey Central cars are a bit easier, because I can reuse the original roof and I have a stack of decal sheets 2" thick... enough for hundreds of cars  ;D

Frank I think you're right, they are either PBr or PBn which are pretty similiar.

Athearn does sell the trucks:

Quote
Yes, we have these trucks available they are part number 90629
commonwealth trucks. They are 3.98 a pair plus 5.50 for shipping. We
take visa or master card.

Subject: N scale Express reefer trucks

Comments: When you introduced the  N scale milk reefers, I understood
that the trucks would be made available. I have several pre-Athearn MDC
express reefers that I would like to equip with magnetic knuckle
couplers. The MDC box will not accept an MTL 1128-1130 series. When will
the trucks be available as a separate item?

Rich~

That coach is fantabulous. I was stoked that IM announced their RDG FPs, but consequently seriously upset that there isn't a consist to match. I spent some time digitizing a PBm coach in the hopes that someday I could get some sides etched. I didn't get the rivets done, but the coach drawing looks pretty good. If the core, ends and roof could be cast, it would be pretty simple to crank them out in numbers.

Thanks, if you ever get some sides etched get some extras - you might be able to sell 50-60 of these and recoup some of your costs. I'd be good for 8-10 at least.

I got my IM FP7s this weekend. They run wonderfully (similar to my IM F7s).

But, i was shocked to see that the number boards have no numbers (I assumed this IM photo was preproduction):

N Scale

HO Scale:

I have an email into IM, as all photos I've ever seen show them with numbers on the number boards (this is the 1950s scheme BTW).

The Canadian Pacific units have numbers although the lettering is an older version and not really 100% correct.... still; not a huge issue...

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

They should have done a special run of R. J. Corman , for the convention.

They did!  The latest N-Scale Collector magazine mentions that a special run of RJ Corman units was done by the NSC and DCE and will be for sale at the convention.

My Milwaukee Road unit has numbers in the numberboards, but I note that my model has a passenger style pilot compared to the freight version(?) shown in the Canadian Pacific photos. Overall it looks nice and it a needed addition to my fleet, although I don't like how far the side grabs stick out and how the lift rings are "represented". These seem like known issues to people...has anyone been successful in trimming/replacing the grabs to make them look better?

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

IM said they were "sorry" ...

Here's one of my FP7s nose to nose with a Kato E8:

Good news! Got this in an email yesterday:

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your patience regarding our problem with the N Scale FP7 Southern number boards. Please be assured that we are very conscious of this problem and are doing everything possible to correct it. We will be obtaining correct number boards within the next four or five weeks with the appropriate numbers for replacement. Once we receive them we will forward them to you and our other customers with instructions for replacing the blank number boards. Please let us know the number of your locomotive so we can furnish the correct boards to you. ...

Best Regards,,

Frank
