For the next few weeks, it's February 1962 in Veracruz, México. At that time, the Cooperativa de Transportes Urbanos y Suburbanos (Urban and Suburban Transportation Cooperative) operated a fairly extensive trolley system using hand me down cars from the US and Mexico City.

Even the carbarn was done in Spanish Colonial style.

CTUS 4, a single trucker of uncertain origin and the worse for wear, at the Zocalo in downtown Veracruz. A single trucker in revenue service in 1962!

If a single trucker was unusual in 1962, how about a single trucked open car? Here's CTUS 9 in downtown Veracruz. Veracruz was the last city in North America to operate open cars by decades.

Next week, more from Veracruz.

These photos sort of relate to a couple of threads on the n-scale board in the past few weeks about tankcar and unpressurized covered hopper unloading.  They are on a siding used to unload fertilizer and other ag chemicals in Indiana (thus the crappy midwestern gray sky even in April).

Tank car unloading equipment - I like the drive-on truck scale right next to the track:

Under-track pit and conveyor for transferring covered hopper loads to trucks:

I notice that whatever is being unloaded here has a reddish look in the pit photo.  Anyone who knows more about fertilizers, pesticides, etc. have any idea what "ingredient" this might be?

Jeff

PS - love the styling on that Veracruz carbarn, 3rdrail!

Probably potassium chloride/potash....

Here's the catch that I made in the few minutes that I had to railfan this past week.  This is CSXT Q174-11 (a long intermodal train of trailers and single-stack containers) passing
through East Aiken, Maryland (CSX's [former B&O] Philadelphia Subdivision) at 4:09 p.m. on April 12, 2008 behind ES44DCs 5317 and 5448.  By the way, that exhaust blast as the train passed under the bridge I was standing on was quite warm!

Enjoy,

Ahh, good old 174... it's been a while since I've seen that. I think that was a usual late night catch for us back when we were 'fanning Philly. I think that was the "catch it on the way home" train. Or maybe that was 176. Gonzo, is my nostalgia misplaced here?

Instead of more Steamtown, VT I'm posting some photos of SCL in the Carolina's during the mid 70's.

Some shots taken at MNNR last weekend.

There's more shots of these in the album if you're interested.

More stations for your enjoyment...

Owings Mills, Maryland.  A composite of three photos. My late friend John Craft helps display the door detail. Photo taken 1986. The structure is gone, and CSX has let the area around it grow over.

Union Bridge, Maryland.  One of the last active T.O. offices on the east of the WM.  After that, it served as the HQ of the Maryland Midland.  Currently it's part of the WMRHS museum.

Hagerstown, Maryland.  This was the operational nerve center of the WM, the Hagerstown yard office.  Still used by CSX as a subdivision office.

Glyndon, Maryland.  The concrete steps that went from the station to the platform is embossed with the station name.  The station still stands and serves as the community's post office.

Jeff's post inspired me to toss these into the pot. This is a fertilizer unloading station in Lakehurst, NJ. The device in the last image is a winch that drags the cars through the loader with a cable. Loads more photos in the album.

Indeed it is. You're probably thinking of 175, which they sometimes merged with the empty southbound juice. 174 has been an early-afternoon train for nearly a decade now.
