I just took a walking/driving tour of the Northern Central with a bunch of fellow NCR fans, and a few local experts. I saw all sorts of great stuff and now have a bunch more ideas for the future layout.

I also hung out with Bob Bufkin yesterday after he visited the Timonium show. He got a chance to see his layout and I got a chance to peek at some of his awesome old CR documentation collection.

Woeked on another 12-1 Pullman sleeper - albiet a bit of a rare roadname - the Northern Alberta Railway (NAR) and one of her three 12-1's - the Westlock.....

I use her for excursions.... as I use excursions to explain virtually everything that makes no sense...

Went to the Lindsay Ontario train show as well... with 2 four year olds.... both daddy and the train show survived.... nice little show - some very nice work and both kids got to run trains - a little tiny Z scale suitcase layout and both got to take the DCC throttle on the main lines of a full size layout - had a blast.....

Does it get any better than this ?
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

As Ed mentioned I visited him yesterday after spending too much money at the show.  That being said - I visited his layout - he didn't visit mine.  Thanks for the visit Ed.  And Jerry, the Baldwin switcher I got from you works fine - Bob

I chased a coal train to a power plant, then noticed that the foam on my door layout has grown a hill.  Apparently I used the wrong type of liquid nails and it melted the foam/caused the foam to curl up creating a rise in the middle. The foam came off the door pretty easy but it was beyond saving, so I had to stick some new on there with another type of liquid nails that specifically lists foam as one of the materials on which it can be used. Fortunately my struggle to come up with a trackplan that resembles any part of the Indiana Harbor Belt meant that I did not have to pull up any cork or track.

Since it looks like I'll be in working in Greensboro for a while longer I moved to another apartment and moved the layout up from the ATL.  I was very pleased to find everything went back together in good order, despite the the bump, bump, bump in the truck all the way up I-85.  Here's a photo of Spencer's latest home.  This is what living rooms are for, right!  ;)

I also broke down and ordered a resistance soldering outfit.  It arrived this past week but I haven't had time to play with it yet.  To get where I want to go with the NKP SD9 project (and beyond) it became apparent my old soldeing pencil wasn't going to cut it.  Stay tuned.

Greensboro, huh?  That means you have no excuse to come to the November Raleigh show.

I picked up a four CD set with a six hour Grateful Dead concert.

I also helped with some stuff on my girlfriend's HO layout.

Here's what I have been doing for the last 9 months or so.

A UP mixed freight crossing the bridge:

Same UP freight coming off the bridge and onto the second shelf level of the layout:

A short steel coil train heads over the bridge and downhill:

Same steel coil train taken from the valley:

Again the same coil train from the other side of the bridge:

Coil train crossing the viaduct bridge farther down the grade:

A shot down into the valley after the train passes:

Not a lot from me this week. Finished a loksound decoder install in my Big Boy which I'm also preparing to weather. Built my son a wooden loco for his 5th birthday (yesterday). Painted some more of the house ::) and generally just loafed around....not much really!  ;)

I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the show.  It happened to be my first attempt as show coordinator for BANTRAK so I had to be around the whole time.

We spent way too much this time.  We picked up a pair of Brunswick Green Kato PA-1A/B units with decoders, a Zephyr 11 car set, Kato CB&Q F3A and B units and a half dozen Pennsy passenger cars....Like I said, way too much, although the Zephry stuff was actually purchased by my wife Denise...I have a great wife!

All-in-all, I think it was a pretty good show from BANTRAK's perspective.  The layout ran well, the runners had very few issues and the Louisville modules were test run.

Now I can use a weekend off.

I managed to fix my botched Magic Water attempts.  I also planted about 400 more trees on the layout and painted the rocks in the next area I'll be scenicing.

Norm,

Make sure you take the clear covering off the foam before you glue it down.  Sounds like what happened to me when I forgot that step.

Steve,

Soldering irons aren't for cutting, they afe for soldering.  Torches are for cutting.
