After trying to sell my IM FT set for many months, I've decided to just keep 'em. 

So, I take 'em out of the box to see if they're the DCC ready type.. 

Funny, there are no directions on removing the shell.. and no warning such as  "If you have high blood pressure, or suffer from even the slightest bit of anxiety you should not attempt to remove the shell.  Prepare a stiff drink upon completion of shell removal"

what the?? did they glue the mu*$*!r f*&#in' things on?? 

After mucho googling, searching trainboard, searching here, inserting toothpics, prying with little screwdrivers, DROPPING one of them(on the bench, not the floor thank god), and countless prompts from the other room "Daddy, what does that word mean that you're yelling?", I GOT THEM OFF!!!

I even had a friggin' vice-grip on the fuel tank!  lengthwise mind you.. not sideways

Someone please tell me that when I put them back together, I won't ever have to go through this sh1t again.  I'm afraid, I'm very afraid  :-[ :-[ :-[

Was this from a run where the shell was attached with double-sided tape? 

If you remove all reminents of that, you should be fine.

hmm, I didn't see any remnants of tape in there..

Yikes, aside from maybe having to remove the couplers first, my FT shells pop off pretty easily.  Just spread the sides of the shell above the fuel tank a bit with your finger nails, and the mech slides right out.

IMRC can be strange sometimes. I have seen absolutly hidious SD40T-2 engines, yet mine is damn near perfect. My SD45-2 isn't quite as nice, but its still very good. Then I spent a year trying to get replacment F unit shells only to be told they make F unit KITS! They just don't advertize it.

That ain't no $5.99 hammer my friend. That is a limited run, special edition, dual claw, engraved, embossed, logo'ed, grip handled Locomotive Disassembly Device. The military wouldn't know what to do with it.
