Tankcar unloading/storage area

Many layouts ago  ::) ...  I built this as a transfer from tankcar to trucks.

I want to make an updated version now. I plan to use one of Bob's etched unloading platforms. The overall layout would be the same, 2 vertical tanks and 3 horizontal. But I think I can do better with the piping.

Any one have a stash of photos, or ideas that may help me model the piping better?

Well, for what it's worth, Plastruct is having a huge sale on their tubing right now.  It's like 75% off.  I picked up a few pieces of their various sizes ranging from 3/64" up to 1/8".  For no more than a few bucks you can get enough various size piping to create damn near an entire refinery.

Here's a link to their sale page:

They also sell some tank kits of various sizes.  Search for "Tank" and limit it to N Scale to see all their options.

They also sell a somewhat pricey Refinery kit that's got a large variety of various bits, pieces, tanks, pipes, fittings, etc.  It looks to be more than you'd need though.

Be aware that their kits are going to require more than your average skill to put together.  I'd hardly call it even "assembling", as their kits are pretty much just a collection of their various scratchbuilding supplies in a single package.  There's not sprue of stuff that you assemble.  There's just a convenient bunch of related styrene components for you to put together more or less as you see fit.

Chris,

One of the Kalmbach industry books had a piece on a similar industry, I think it was on the CV. If I remember correctly, it was the 1st book - "HO Industries you can model" or some such garbelygook. I have it at home and can check to see if it covers the piping in any detail for you and, if so, shoot you a scanned copy, if you're interested.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Chris, what did you use to make the tanks? Those scratch built? Bashed? Borrowed? I'm going to need to build something similar and was looking for some similar items.

Thanks in advance!

Jamie,
They are 3/4" OD PVC pipe with styrene caps. I scribed "ring" lines with a pair of dividers with one end riding along the edge of the pipe.

The bigger shack is from DPM Woods Furniture, everything else is scratch or bash.
