That's cool! Also appears to be nearly as long as my entire layout.

I'd put MT couplers on it, and lightly weather it. Who cares if there's a prototype, when it looks that neat?

Yeah, Cities Service(I worked for) had GATX get the monster built, then found most LP dealer's track wouldn't hold the thing up, and Hulcher didn't like handling 300,000 lb bombs(which propane cars are, especially if they're leaking). We also had a UTLX version, slightly smaller. As I remember, the GATX was built by Trinity and the UTLX was National Steel. They were great at the loading docks at refineries, and fine in transit, but worthless to deliver. Even 200 ton LP tankers end up on the ground alot, at the dealer's track. Hulcher doesn't enjoy playing with them either. If you don't know, Hulcher is one of the big railroad car re-railing/on site repair outfits...haz-mat clean-up too, and wreck clean-up.

That tank car you caught - or ones similar to it - I've seen a number of times, though not lately. I think I read they were approaching their end of life - or there was some further safety issue as Walkercolt points out.

It would be nice to see a model of those. I always thought that oddballs like that is what MicroTrains should pursue - since they run so little of anything, it would make more sense for them to build less common cars than more common cars.

Yeah a N scale bottle car is needed for those whose railroads serve the steel industry.  And a Schnabel car just for the occasional special run-through.  Of course on my little door it would only be able to sit idle on an interchange track, since I doubt it would negotiate any curves on the layout.

All the eight axle LP tankcars are long since turned into razor blades, except for one in a museum, someplace. They were built in the '60's so they've made their 50 years. Between safety issues and just being too darn heavy, they've gone away. Now Monsanto Chemicals has some six axle tankcars for carrying dense plastic resins, and maybe some eight axle ones too, but they aren't huge tanks. They're in captive service between the Chemical Coast of the Gulf of Mexico and Monsanto plants. Morton Thikorol may have some 8 axle tankers for the raw materials for the Space Shuttle boosters too. The raw materials are very dense, so they might need 8 axles for the load. Overland makes a real nice Schnable car, for about a grand. Your kids can do without braces and college.

This jives with what I've noticed on eBay also, so my suggestion is sell it and it'll most likely pay for a brand new loco of your choice.
