That PC/CR boxcar is interesting - 1 1/2 doors - but look at the "Roller Job" on the "PENN CENTRAL". Looks like the DOOR WAS OPEN when they did it - because the "TRAL" didn't get painted over.

Both doors must have been open, if you look close you'll see that the little bit of the slant P of the PC is left over on the right side which is what that open door must have shielded.

Dave: Who makes that gon model on the previous page?

Don't know; you'll have to ask Rich.

That gon is an old Aurora model - in fact I just picked up a bunch of them on Ebay...

It's a dead on - if not exact model of the modified PRR/PC/CR G36 gondola...  They are pretty easy to find on Ebay or at train shows...

I mix my fade paint with clear coat, rather than thinner.

Yeah me too, the extra binder makes it stick. PS Dust, Microflat, thinned with WW fluid.

Here's what it looked like starting out. LV got some of these from PRR too.

I salvaged one of them, too...

The key is to body mount the couplers, and lower the bolsters.

... Ed, could you please gimme a short information on your "vodka" weathering? ...
Tim

Well Tim, since you already buttered me up...

Basically, what I do is make a wash using the cheapo acrylic craft paints and mid-range Vodka, like Smirnoff's Red label stuff.

I usually do a drop or two of paint into between a half and quarter ounce of booze. It really depends. I just eyeball it. I then mix it up and start layering it on. It's kinda like the "dirty pool" method.

I like the Vodka better than rubbing alcohol for two reasons. First, it's thicker, which I feel gives me a bit more control than regular alcohol, but evaporates faster than water, leaving fewer "puddle" and better streaks.

The only REAL trick to it is lots of practice.

I've got to remember that. I have one of those sitting here. She's even painted for Pen Central.

That's why I was asking. I'd like a few of them for my LV layout.
