Intermountain to release Cab Forward AC12

Intermountain has plans to release an Cab Forward AC12. No release date as of yet but it's been put out for preliminary review. This tid Bit was found in my travels today

Model features are expected to include:
Smooth running drive system
DCC friendly frame
Sharp paint and lettering
Multiple road numbers
Factory installed MICRO-TRAINS couplers

Too bad all the other e-tailer specify that no announcement has been made.  We all know about the drawings that IM had. This blimp at N scale division doesn't lend any more credibility to to the project actually happening.

 If they were really like Athearn then they would do an N AC 12 loco since they have already done it in HO and have the plans, just like Athearn has done with Big Boy's Challenger's and soon UP FEF 4-8-4 locos ,but this is IM so I'am skeptical,so I will continue to enjoy my early 80's Key Imports AC 12 from Nakamura for now, besides it's original cost has now about trippled in dollars on the sellers market.          Nate Goodman (Nato).

I'd bet on Athearn doing their FEF and MT4 in N before they'd do the Cab Forward.

Intermountain announced the release of a cab foward at last years convention in Hartford. Just didn't announce any dates.

A blurb from Kirk Reddie in the latest N-Scale Collector magazine says that tooling for the N-Scale AC-12 will (did?) start in late February, after the Chinese Lunar Holiday, with delivery scheduled for LATE 2008.

Intermountain was showing the CAD files at Hartford, and I swore they told us then that they had started tooling; either I mis-heard (possible) or tooling got delayed (also possible).

So, this may make it for Christmas, but if I had to guess I'd say probably not.

Doesn't matter to me, since I don't need one.

Not that the quality and performance of their HO flat face is any guarantee of what the N scale issue , if made , will be , does anybody know how good the HO version is ?

We in N may need bigger curves if all things remain equal on the N version .

The IM HO Cab-backwards is a good runner and fine puller. If they can scale it down they'll have a winner. But Athearn has proven twice they can make excellent N-scale steam, and I'd feel more confident if they were to do it. Track-record is important. I don't think we'll see an FEF from Athearn this year, but next year I'll be expecting it. And maybe heavyweight cars to go with it. I think we can say that N-scale passenger cars from Hornby are a dead horse. They haven't said a word about doing anything in N-scale. And I can't imagine the RivaRossi USA Big Boy and Challenger's setting any sales records after the Athearn engines, especially with the falling dollar/rising Euro making the street price as high or higher than the Athearn engines.  I think Walther's is betting on the wrong horse.

Well, maybe they (N Scale Division) were forecasting and got lucky. I see IMRC posted the release a day or two ago and N Scale Supply has it posted as well.  Reservation due by the end of May.

Wouldn't hold my breathe for a Christmas delivery though.....  :
