Atlas has some test photos on their forum.  Looks like a great looking model.  Too bad it not my era.

CF7's have fabricated frames. The original F7's used a truss on the sides to give their frames sufficient strength to keep from sagging.

Santa Fe took the F7 compnents and put them on a new fram with new hoods, although they used the part of the F7 carbody around the cab, which were the round roof versions.

But didn't someone say the cab was the only piece used from current parts?

I' don't need no stinkin' GP15's, but they are cool looking.

(I don't care, I normally shave them off anyway and put some BLMA grab irons on but...)

yes, as Chris mentioned above, unless Atlas did change the glass insert for the cab the numberboards will be still wrong on the cab...

Question:  Looks like a hatch on top of the short hood but not on the prototype shown.  Is this a spotting feature of different phases?

The CF-7s used fabbed frames if I remember correctly, so the lenth and truck centers will be different.

They have fabricated side sills designed to support the existing F-unit frame...

Yeah. I'm really happy that of all of em, if not the CR variation, they're doing the MP one. Carving some grabs off is fine with me. That's all I believe I'll need to do (well, maybe fabbing up a chopped down GP38 fuel tank too).

My research indicates a truck center-to-center dimension of 30 feet even:

I am, however, of the opinion that you can't beat real measurements so I would be grateful of any hard data that can be supplied.

The CF7s are a good challenge; many small variations. Our process is good at coping with these. The handrail stanchions on the exposed-beam frame versions are going to be tricky though.

Hey Ed, you mentioned a "chopped down" GP38 fuel tank.  Have you tried doing that for the Atlas GP38's to give them the correct 2600 gallon fuel tank that Atlas managed to ever look?  This is on my list of things to do also.  Thnaks.

That's on my "someday" list. Mostly because I'm going to have to cut the metal frame, and I'm currently not setup for that type of work.
