V&O on its last run

Apparently Allen McClelland has decided to sell his house in Ohio, and move ..

From Tony K

Quote
Allen and Sharon McClelland are selling their Miamisburg O., home and moving to a retirement community this spring. That will allow them to gain better control on their retirement funds and avoid heavy housework.

Allen would like to sell the house with the V&O 2.0 intact, of course. It is fully operational with some basic scenery in place. An open house is scheduled for Sunday, March 16.

Paul Dolkos, Steve King, and I are headed out there in mid-March to photograph and otherwise document every square inch of it for future magazine articles.

An era is about to end. Hard as I try, I cannot think of a single individual who has contributed more to the advancement of model railroading from a runs-the-trains activity to modeling a transportation system with a walk-around design supported by hidden staging. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Wow, that's amazing. With the move to smaller digs, think we can convince him to get into N?

Have you seen some of the homes in the newer retirement communities? The ones they are building in Southern NH for 60+ persons have a bigger basement foot print of the house I built for my layout. :o

i might have to switch to HO to pickup all those Alco's he had.  that was a nice layout and all, but his retarders didn't work - that skeletor looking dude, the one's with the "feud" who lived near Allen, he had working retarders...  that was some cool stuff back in the day - who does working hump yards these days - most operations based layouts have more staging tracks than mainline...

this is the second version of the V&O - i believe he moved back in the 90's and tore out the original.

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

The Dry Hill Model Railroad Club has a working hump yard. Its pretty cool to watch. Sometimes they bring it to the Springfield, MA shows.
