I spent the day visiting a couple of layouts in the Baltimore area.  The first was a great room surrounding affair in N scale built by seusscaboose.  His rig is designed to reflect elements of the PRR and the Nickel Plate.

He graciously allowed the Wandering Chopnose to take a spin, pulling a WM work train.

Here we are leaving the terminal for our trip.

A Pennsy passenger train breezes past my work train.

The areas that he's scenicked look good.  He told me that he will shortly be converting all of his track to Atlas C-55.

Eric works for a Caterpillar dealer, which inspired this scene.

Later in the day I was able to get back to John's layout, the Maryland and Ohio.  He's been reworking a lot of this basement-filling empire (to say the least) over the past year, and the changes have really added some great scenery.

Once again, the Wandering Chopper makes it's appearance, along with a brace of road power on the lower line.

I also picked up some supplies I'll need to paint a new member of the locomotive roster... stay tuned for developments...

wm3798, great shots, thx for sharing.  I was just in the Baltimore area this week
on business, but it was a fast-in, fast-out.  Got to the new MB Klein location,
made a few purchases, then had to head for the airport.........

As for modeling, after starting way back in Sept 2007, I finished the N scale Santa Fe
GP7B project this week:

More info on what I learned while doing this Des Plaines GP7/9B kit, at:

Des Plaines N scale GP7B kit - any experiences to share?

===========

I'm on to my next projects... renumbering some LifeLike SD7 Black Widows
N scale LifeLike SD7 in Black Widow, this one renumbered from the as-delivered-by
LifeLike 5321,  to number 5322:

A number #5325 is next.

Yes, I know the DF-118 class SD7 SP Black Widows in this number range, should have
steam generators details on short hood, and barrel can headlights.....
if I can ever find any of those out-of-production Sunrise Enterprise N scale
parts, I'll add them.

Anyone got any of those Sunrise detail parts they're not going to use, and want to
sell them to me?  Contact me off list.  The desired parts are the Sunrise Enterprises
SP Steam generators (p/n 425), and SP Barrel headlights (p/n 630).

:-)

Have a good weekend, all!

Working on Walthers gas storage tank. Tank is large, kept checking to make sure I had an N scale kit.

I managed to get most of the foam for the base down. A second layer will be used to elevate some portions of track, and hills.

well...
i spent half my weekend playing trains.. and another 3 hours chasing an electrical problem that was "in the end" a simple fix.... of course, it took 3 hours to find.... and the problem was rather embarassing.... but when crow is served, i like it cold... :)  i accdently splattered solder on a track and it spanned both rails.. and shorted out an electrical block.... long story short, all tracks were isolated and the problem was eventually solved... i chalk it up to lesson learned and always start with the simple question

"what was it you were just doing, why did it all go to hell in a handbasket in a blink of an eye"  :)

anyway... ran trains most of the weekend..

"I have a train full of basements"

I painted track.

After masking off the bridges with masking tape, the track was sprayed with a base coat of Floquil Roof Brown.

This was followed by Rail Brown brushed on the rails and tie plates with a #3/0 round brush. Ties were individually colored with varying strengths of India ink washes and Doctor Ben's Aged Driftwood using a #0 round brush. Finally, the rail was stained in places with splotches of Doctor Ben's Realistic Rust and Weathered Rust.

Work called me out Friday evening around 2000hrs and didn't get home until around 0600 Saturday, which kind of messed up my plans.  I didn't get to do much model railroad-related yesterday or today.  This afternoon I did get a couple of shots of the newest steam in Kentucky, even though the weather wasn't cooperative:

RJ Corman went and got themselves a Chinese QJ 2-10-2! And without smoke deflectors, too!

Lee and Matthew--correct.  I'm not a steam fan, so in the end I don't really care where the loco came from, but it would have been nice to see a big American steamer restored.  Several people have wondered if it has lead paint...
