I have built the Remington X23 boxcar. The kit as designed is virtually unbuildable - that is the thing would be so light and frail it would not stay on the rail, nor could you properly attach trucks to it.

I substituted .010" styrene sheet for the paper used, and built the car around a 1/16" basswood frame. So, it is virtually scratchbuilt. If you can scratchbuild, these provide a good start, although you'll need additional parts like brake gear, ladders, and grabs.

Here's a finished X23:

I guess that's why they don't have a photograph on the box :)

Does that X23 come with decals?

Still not happy with mine.

No, I have some NorthEast Decals sets plus end reporting marks by Roland (engineshop). Used one on this.

Those are interesting kits. Can  you show the ore cars in more detail?
Are they wood, plastic, or metal ?

Wasn't someone going to produce the X-23 using "rapid prototyping"

ThirlRail : What do you mean by "paper"? Was that for the sides and
roof ?

(I did see some cardboard car sides from RED BALL that I have never
seen before.)

Is it a coincidence that Kato is located on 100 Remington Road?

Re: the X23. The roof and the door were to be made of postcard stock on the Remington model.

The X23 is available from Mark4Design as a highly detailed plastic kit. I have three.

This is my M4D X23. I have only decaled this one side so far. Not sure I like the decals.

I think they are CDS dry transfers that I transfered to clear decal paper.
