The H-7s lasted until the end on the WM, but given your period, it could be an excursion engine acquired from wherever but painted for WM, similar to the one in Cumberland (A LS&I with a NYCS H-10 tender).  This one is a looks much like a CRI&P/SLSF 1911 2-8-0 with a USRA Standard tender.

The detail on the Bachpersonn is better than what went before in N scale.  You could read the Baldwin builder's plate under a magnifying lamp.  But, before you even touch it, the number on B-mann's WM version of this is one of the ALCo-builts.

The biggest difference I see, aside from the locations of the various appliances (which I have absolutely no knowledge of..  I wouldn't know an air pump from a Cuisinart...) is the diameter of the smoke box (a tad small) and the height of the stack (a bit taller than the real thing.)

The Bachmann tender, and really the overall lines, appear to be a closer match for the Alco's anyway, and all the Baldwin's met the torch by 1936, while the Alco's soldiered on until 1954.

I had a few photos available when I bashed the nose, and in looking at the shots of 761 in the magazine, I think I got the flavor pretty close.  There's some train line hoses and some other doodads I could add, but I think it would be more fun to just get a couple more, and use them to hump coal out of West Virginia, the way God intended...

The Spectrum 2-8-0 is a better match for some other WM classes, not the H7 series. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/wm/wm-s754abn.jpg

I see how this works -- IRC doesn't number the F7s correctly and gets slammed and Bachmann numbers it's 2-8-0 for an engine that doesn't match the numbers used when the model is closer to a different prototype and for three years gets a "pass." . .  .. Now I see how this works . . . .  ;D ;D ;D

Survey says?...

Good enough!

I'm coming to a realization regarding N scale steam...  that the 85-90% solution is the way to go.  To squeeze that last few percent of accuracy points out of it, for me, anyway, would cross the threshold from fun to work.

754 IS an H-7.  That's one of the reference photos I used.  833 is an H-9 (I think), which also looks pretty close.  No matter what, you're going to have an Alco... Baldwin didn't get much business from the WM after the first world war.

I picked up the Consolidation about a year ago purely as a curiosity.  It's a good running model, and I figured a little minor surgery to update the nose would get it to look like it might have survived in a barn after 1954.  As Robb will be quick to point out, my namesake GP40 is also a fantasy scheme...

I also have the little shay, which is purely a fabrication.

Dave's right, and he's more of a steam modeler than I'll ever be.  The BMX issue will just make it ever more clear how far removed I am from being a steam purist.

Don't worry, I'll never look as good in an apron as David Popp...

I'm shocked that Lee just now came into this realization.  :o

Did ya also know that the Bmann 2-8-0 is overscale? :P
