Well, despite my recent electronics woes, I was able to slip down to the creek bank to do some railfanning.  I grabbed this shot of one of those newfangled 89' trailer flats...

I think it's morally repugnant that Micro Trains doesn't release this car three times a year with prototype paint schemes and road numbers. I bought this as a part of a three car kit back in 1988, and I don't think this scheme has been produced since. Shame on you Micro Trains. A Pox on your house! Snappy looking Laurel Valley Trailer, there...

Then in the same train, what should roll by but this relic...

Of course, this isn't the original Atlas Forum car, but rather the special edition that Feather River did back in ought-4.  The original car was numbered 2003.  Car on lease from the House of Kapuscinski.

And bringing up the rear, caboose 1828.

We chased the train a little farther west, and caught up with it emerging from Indigo Tunnel...  The light was just starting to get bad, but it made for a pretty good shot.

Better check the waybill on that Laurel Valley car... I think it's running late... Looks like "The Spy" has tagged it... Kilroy, too! For you modern guys, that's the extent of the graffiti on my layout.

Great stuff this week, as always...

Tom, looks like the bottom edge of the decal is visible, assuming that is a decal and I'm not seeing things.

Thanks, but if you're not sure, I may leave it alone. ;)

I saw it as well, but I don't know how you could hide it any better without slathering more dullcote on...

I doubt that it's visible to the naked eye...  I mean, he did shoot the image with a neutron microscope...

Some pics from the weekend's efforts.

I got the wood for the board & batten siding, but have had bad weather every weekend since. I finally got outside long enough to get some up.

I have the first 8 feet done and landscaped. Only 324 to go.

I am really happy with the way the Flat Swamp area is turning out.

can't quite put my finger on it, but those bridges seem very "heavy" looking - are they modeled after a prototype?

I was on the verge of making the same comment, but the rest of the scene is so excellent, I let it slide a bit.  I really like the bridge pier and the water.

Getting awful close to the Chessie era with that yellow TT scheme ... ;)

They cross an area of High Rock Lake known as Flat Swamp (really) on the WSS. The only picture I had to go by is below. It is not accessible by road and at the time (last winter) couldn't get there by water, either.

They were the first "scratchbuilts" I ever did and used the Plastruct kit, and then bought similar materials to complete the other 2. If I had to do it over, I would probably use smaller beams.

I love that greenish brown effect in the water . Given the effort of building a house addition for a superbly detailed layout , I would swap out those bridges . They do look too heavy to me as well . I totally understand your personal attachment to them , and they were well done at the time . I would display them proudly so visitors can be shown your workmanship . But there are finer detailed bridges now available , and I think they would make the otherwise perfect scene more scale looking . Just an opinion , and not intended to be hurtful . Bottom line , do what you want .

Point taken. I am not really that attached to them other than just having them done and checked off the list. The hardest part about replacing them would be hacking up the track and putting it back together.

May add them to the list for replacement in the 1st overhaul. At this rate, though that could be sometime from now.
