SNFF 2007 12 23

Got the GP7B shell and handrails assembled:

Next will be decaled details, numberboards, weathering.

After starting way back in Sept 2007, it's getting
nearer to completion.  (whew!)  Still a hack job,
but it's been a great learning experience.

that GP B unit looks great - i need to do one up for PRR at some point.

today i bought a 12 pack of Tortoise switch machines, 4 turnouts, paint and decals, and 6 pieces of code 55 flex track.  my wife was at Klein's with me and gave me a look when i was told the price at the check out.  luckily i bought her a nice gift to off set that look that she will get to open on Tuesday ;)

i still need to pickup an F unit and some more cars and i forgot to get a few things.

Chulvis did it again! Somehow, he got the local post office to deliver my package today, Sunday! All this after telling me on the 'phone that deliveries were really slow this year. Good thing the wife bought an expensive lamp and two TV's last week, as she saw the CC receipt.  ;D ;D ;D

Between last minute Xmas shopping and doctors didn't get anything done railroad wise except upload two photos to the internet after I accidentally disconnected the scanner and had to test it.  :(

No, one for the living room and one for the back bedroom.  ;) ;D My Canon printer was tired of sharing the top of the filing cabinet with a Magnavox CRT TV.  :D

I took Andy to the fire house to see the Christmas garden on Tuesday.  Nothing like watching a Lionel switcher hauling a$$ around 12" radius turn with a bunch of flickering coaches...

While we were there, we were visited by the Ghost of Ringo Past...

For Christmas, I'm giving him 5 minutes with the dog shears.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I finally restarted the NKP SD9 project this past week.  Photo and commentary are posted under the NKP SD9 thread in the weathering, scratchbuilding section.

John thinks his GP9B project went slowly?  Compared to me he's a speed demon!  ;)  ;D

Merry Christmas to all.

I also really started work on the Berkshire, I have decided to go with the Kato Mike, despite the too-larg
boiler, rather than try to get the MP all metal Mike stretched.

I even got to play with my Grandpa's Lionel stuff from the 1920's.  That's always a bit of a tradition.  We even gave my GREAT grandpa's No 1 gauge trolly a good test run.

installed 2 Circuitron switch machines, just 6 more to go!  i am running them on a variable voltage power supply until i determine the voltage i like.  anything above 8 volts = noise.  i am running them on 4v at the moment and it is quiet.

i took apart one of my C-630 shells and started to wipe it down with 91% alcohol.  the PC lettering is not coming off, but the paint is.  i have no idea what they use for the pad printing, but it's solid.

Finished up a pair of these Intermountain reefers in NWX.  New sills, shortened doors, paint touch-up, and even changed the lettering in the herald from white to yellow (carefully).  Touch-up paint matches in color, just not sheen... so it should look like less of a hack job once it gets clearcoat and some light weathering:

Also started this project.  I was just going to lower and weather the MTL wood reefer until I pulled out the Color Guide to reefers.  Pretty soon I figured out this car was rebuilt in '55, with steel roof and ends as opposed to the MTL all wood car... few slices and some parts from Intermountain and I've got another unique C&NW NWX reefer.  I had to shorten the height of the MTL sides some, and add a new board along the eve, plus some new grabs, etc.

Hi guys, I've been gone for a while but here is the beginning of my station area.  I'm the guy who was modeling the San Luis Obispo / Cuesta Pass area.

This layout has been moved four times in the past two years because I had to go on internships.  I'm almost ready to graduate so I can build a room for this hulk.

Received my Thomas and Friends order on Thursday. Managed to get a decoder installed in James in time to run on the BANTRAK layout Saturday morning. Already have Thomas with decoder and working headlight/eyeballs.
Amazing how quickly Thomas can steal the crowd from a 100+ car coal drag.

John,  the holiday decorations are nice.

Merry Christmas,
Martin
