How are the Trainman Thrall 4750 Covered Hoppers?

I agree..

I tested them out on code 55 with MTL trucks (lo pros) and they had no problems.
They actually feel heavier than the Intermountains Hoppers..
However, I did have to put a washer underneath the MTL truck when i switched them out because if you don't the inside truck sticks up going around curves. It might be my super elevated curves though..

Red Caboose makes a 9-pack of plastic outlet gates for the ex-Precision Masters cars for $2.50. RNP-51302 is the part number and they are showing as in-stock at RC. Just by eyeballing it, I think they will fit the Trainman cars (I don't have ant yet to verify this). So for $0.83 per car you can eliminate one complaint item!

Sunrise also made white metal hopper outlet gates for the PM cars. If you can find a stash of them, the part number was N-547. They are similar to the RC parts, so I wouldn't waste any time trying to track them down.

You're right, it's hard to complain about sub-$10 cars! Red Caboose hasn't released any of the ex-PM cars in a long time, so it will be nice to have a fresh infusion of grain "fleet" cars.

I can see that the Trainman car represents a different version than both the InterMountain and the Red Caboose 4750s, but what's the difference, if any, between the IM and ex-PM cars? And does IM sell their etched roofwalks as parts?

Got one today. Its looks good. The roofwalk is not bad. About the same as the Atlas two and four bay covered hoppers.

Received my first 2 from Chuck today, both DME examples, and can say I am impressed. Although the roof is nowhere near as fine as the etched Intermountain one it still looks fine and should enable me to fill out my Grain Hopper fleet far cheaper than with just Intermountain.
Will try to get some of the discharge outlet gates to finish them off?

Bryan, The Intermountain Roofwalk will not work It's an entirely different style than the Atlas Car.
