I especially like the model in the second photo...

Nice to see a famous star having a high quality layout .

Nice to see it made the news , even if it wasn't here .

Nice to see folks not taking shots at it as well , not that any could be found .

I haven't gotten mine yet... I assume he's done all the work his own bad self?  No hired guns?

If I'm reading the story from the link in Lee's first post correctly, the layout is in Stewart's "Beverly Hills Mansion".  I'm assuming that's Beverly Hills, California, USA...

Isn't the Daily Mail a British paper ?

Yes, it is a British paper but I can attest to the fact that Rod's layout is in Beverly Hills, Ca. He stops in train shops while touring. Rod is no slacker when it comes to modeling. He knows his stuff.

I somehow do not think he actually built that layout. Also, all of the photos are in one area and you barely see his wife! err.... trains...

What does the article say? The title suggests that it explains how the work might have been done. Either way, I don't think it matters how much work he actually did himself; it's a nice boost to the hobby. And I'm somewhat impressed that, in the same issue, there is some coverage of Z scale and handlaying turnouts. Seems like a nice spread of topics for a change.

The way I read the article, he builds most of the structures, and does work on the layout.  He also has help with some things like the benchwork and the wiring.  Not much unlike a lot of us.  I know a lot of us have friends that help with our layouts.  The big difference is that he has a lot more money to spend on the layout that at least I do.  It is also interesting that he takes kits "on the road" and builds them in his hotel room.  Pretty interesting article, I thought

Those structures he does are very nice , mentions that many have interior detailing , further mentions that the more you look the more you keep finding hidden details on each visit . Sounds like , and looks like top shelf to me . Mentions that the next step are the hills , and that he is looking forward for the challenge of learning through trial and error how to get it right . Sound like us to me . He is unquestionable into it , does exceedingly well at it , and I for one am tickled pink by all this . It validates Model Railroading more than it was before the story aired . Hmmmmm wonder if I can sing . ::)
