My name is John Drake and I have been signed up since late last year, I have been negligent in introducing myself.  I have been an N scaler since 1969, and have had 4 different layouts of various degree of completion, though over the last 15 years because of career and family obligations, have been mainly an armchair modeler.  Also, constantly change my mind about every 6 months or so on layout themes, roads and era and causes analysis paralysis and massive equipment accumulations!

However, it is time to change that, and ironically, it took a move from a New England house with a giant basement to a small apartment in the Caribbean to make me want to get things going again! After waffling for so many years, I have decided to focus a layout them on some segment of the UP Overland route in Nebraska and/or Wyoming.  I was a management trainee for U.P. right out of college during the mid-80s based in North Platte and I have fond memories of Uncle Pete of that time.  Also the SD40-2 is my all time favorite loco so it is a great match of road and era!!  Let's see what the coming months bring.

I joined Railwire to be inspired and draw on the knowledge and experience of the other members.  I hope to be sharing my work and thoughts going forward.

-John

John,
Welcome aboard! You'll find many SD enthusiasts here - I tend to like mine in white with big red letters. We have a strong conti gent if guys who do amazing things in small spaces, so poke around, ask questions, and remember TRW Rule #2 - pics or it didn't happen.

Welcome Jason!  If you are thinking about getting into N scale, this is the place to be.

Jason,

Welcome to the Railwire.  I have long had an affinity for railroads in the southeastern U.S.  I would enjoy seeing you model the ICG/IC.  Be sure to post lots of pics.  We like that.  Our mantra is "Photos, or it didn't happen."   ;)

Jason,
Welcome.  Being a Baton Rouge Refugee, I think you and I have much in common.  I'm currently working on a late 1990's rendition of some parts of North Baton Rough that will include both KCS and ICG - all be it in grey/orange and/or Deathstar black.

We'll get a new coffee pot going here soon - just don't tell the guys I started Friday with some cajun Chicory blend!

GREETINGS!!

I'm Andrew.   I am here at the direction of a man who is a talented modeler, yet woefully computer inept (His name is available upon request and his consent) .  Deficiencies aside, we are a team so to speak; I being I.T., and he being design.  I will be here collecting information on future modeling projects, and will of course be shearing any revelations we happen upon with you guys.  That said, I look forward to asking many question. Don't worry, Ill do a search of the forum before cluttering it up with a repeat question.

I like the aura of mystery around you modeling team.  :)
The modeling you speak of is this for yourselves or will you be selling your models as a a business?

Hey all, I've been around for awhile, in the shadows, just joined this site the other day. I've been on hiatus from the hobby just due to my return from Korea earlier in the year, and also because of serious lack of money and motivation. Truthfully I've been put off from modeling because every time I start a new layout i get orders to move, so I've been stuck just weathering cars or superdetailing locos. My first forum was NSO, and i have been bitten by the bug again, and starting a new HCD layout.

I model the Reading between 1952-1958 in the anthracite, so i have a million hoppers and zero passenger cars. Since there is not much for my road in N, I have resorted to ALPS printing white decals for my cars, a lot of kitbashing/scratchbuilding and everything in between. When I get some time, I'll gather some pics of my work and start posting

Welcome, TurboBoost910!  We love HCD layouts here.  Be sure to share your experiences in building your layout.  I look forward to hearing more about your Reading layout.  Feel free to start a thread in the Layout Engineering Forum.  Oh, and we like pictures, too.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ross and I joined a while ago but have been too busy to post anything as of yet.

I would like to introduce myself, my wife and I have been modeling for some time now. Jenny (my wife) has been modeling N Scale for 17 years and I have been into model railroading since I was just over a year old. My parents had bought my older brother an N scale train set and I took it over. After a few month my parents had realized I hadn't damaged anything and took extreme care and pride in my brothers trains so they bought me an HO Scale train set. (This is from what they and my brother told me as I was too young to remember)

My wife and I met because of our photography interest  We have been professional photographers for quite some time 20ish years, shooting for an agency in Spain that sells our work internationally plus we owned a photography studio for a while.

Fast forward to last year in the spring of 2013 when my wife and I decided to start an online magazine on the hobby of model railroading. I had always wanted to have the option for a magazine that focused on the art of the hobby. I could always find how to articles on the internet and forums for projects and couldn't find out why so many magazines focus their time on these subjects when they are typically free a dozen. I really wanted a magazine that railfanned the layouts and focused the attention on that side of the hobby.

On August 2013 we launched our magazine called Trackside Model Railroading™

While focusing on layouts is really hard to do, there is a lot of time involved, I feel I am blessed to have the opportunity to meet the layout owners and see some of the best layouts around and have the option to be able to share them with the world.

Our magazine comes out once a month on the first of every month and it is in a PDF format and includes formats for the following /Tablet Format/Desktop Format/Phone Format/Retina or Ultra HD Displays/

Since we are new and of the digital age we feel we can break some of the rules the other magazines have put in place:
Inside the magazine you will typically see anywhere from 20 plus images per layout and each layout will include HD video of the trains in action. All our HD videos are Chromecast or Smart TV seady so you can view them on your big screen TV if you currently own the 35 dollar Chromecast device or a Smart TV. We try to shoot for 30 plus images but not all layouts are big enough to provide that many. We also do not manipulate the images so you can see the true art of the layout.

The October issue is a little different as we had a very large N Scale layout and a small bedroom sized layout and the numbers were 48 images for the large N Scale layout and 13 for the HO scale bedroom layout.  We promise to provide as many photos as we can per layout (will depend with size of the layout) with all our tours.

We also currently have no paid advertisements in the magazine and when we do move into that we will have a very limited number. We want the focus to stay on the layouts and not on the advertisements.

We hope you will come and check us out and maybe give us a try. I will post a few things from the magazines from time to time on here so everyone can see what we are up to.

Thanks
Ross

Jeff Merrill, San Francisco Bay Area Z Scale. a.k.a. The BAZ BoyZ.  Just a couple of guys up here in northern California (the ZoCal group in Southern California has dozens of members).

Long time train enthusiast thanks to what I saw my Grandfather making cars out of blocks of wood, paper decals and pouring molten metal to make trucks and couplers (1960's). After High School, college, job, ladies, and then kids kept trains as a passing interest until the German company that owned us sent me there. The attachĂ© layout with a Z scale Santa Fe F7 (well, sorta) caught my eye.  Still just a passing interest until I one my local customer Kim Vellore had a loco on his desk.  He was a Z scaler. That's it.  Seeing fellow Robert Ray do things with the laser and Kim Vellore's micro Automation and DCC, I was hooked. Next year, several Z-Bend Track modules.

My background is RF (radio), but have experience in all trades. Volunteer at Niles Depot, N scale. I'll try anything.
