If I may, perhaps model the CSX longbridge over the potomac thru to the Virginia Avenue Tunnel.

In the background you could have all the monuments (as facing north, you'd see the tracks, then buildings, then monuments).

But aye, something as complex as Union Station wouldn't be easy for anyone, mcuh less a new-to-hobby guy, but thats part of the fun of it all, reaching big.

There are a few features in NE that I want to model, although there is a location along the Anacostia that I believe the Virginia Avenue line meets up with that would be very important to me to model.

There's not much interest to that approach, I wouldn't think. The monuments, unless scaled down past proportion, would fill a lot of space (or just be back drop) and the buildings there are big, concrete, boring federal buildings if I am picturing it properly. It is intriguing, but it seems like even less interest as far as the track goes than what I'm even talking about doing. I might just not be picturing it properly, though.

I'm new to the forum, but have been enjoying the hobby (in my adult life anyway) for over 5 years. I am also active on trainboard. I am currently working on a HCD Layout in N scale and will post a thread in the coming days. I model NS and will be focusing on coal ops on my layout. I also enjoy kitbashing and detailing locos. Outside of the hobby, I enjoy the Philadelphia Eagles, die Duetsch Autos, cold beer, taking care of my family and my career as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Welcome! We have several current and former law enforcement personnel here at RailWire.  Also quite a few working HCD layouts (and smaller).  Quite a few eastern road fans here as well.  I myself am a long time PRR fan and interested in NS as well.  C'mon in and don't take things too seriously, people here can have a sharp wit but it's mostly bark rather than bite.

Hi. Another new member to this site for Southern New Jersey. Long time N Scaler (1968 seems to be the year that sticks in my head - pretty sure that's the year my uncle gave me an N Scale RTR layout for Christmas). Without layout at the moment, but I have all sorts of stuff that I've worked on over the years ready for the next layout when the time is right - motive power, structures from shake the box to strip by strip basswood, plans plans plans, and endless back issues of MRR, RMC, and the N Scale mags. I've kept many of my older locos, usually remotoring them and adding DCC so they will be ready to work with the newer DCC-enabled engines that are now part of my fleet.

Yes I'm a(nother) PRR fan, which might seem to be no surprise given where I live, but my choice of PRR goes back to childhood when this born and raised New Yorker was growing up in NYC territory! Anyway, I'm happy to be here!

Welcome aboard Tony. Are you in the southwest or southeast quadrant on NJ? So far I have been able to find about 7 of us in the southwest portion on the forums and about another 6-7 in central NJ.

Hello, I'm a new member from Toronto Canada.

I had a Ho Scale layout as Preteen /Teen about a million years ago (ok just seems that way) .

I've wanted to see if i could get back into the hobby for years but life was in the way and it's just now that i have the time and means to do so.

Due to size constraints I've decided on N-Scale and after spending about 2.5 years planning etc I'm about to start on a HCD 80 x 36 .

I've posted the layout plan on another forum to get opinions and suggestions and  expect I'll do the same here shortly .

As far as "non-rivet counting" and "relaxed", I think you will see both extremes here too.  Actually, I'm quite sure if it.

I mainly lurk over on N scale.com But found this site when I was looking for Gary60s plans. I have no layout but am considering doing some micro layouts such as a pizza or a shelf. I have some Z and some N so either is possible.

Hey! My name is Miles, and I've been building models professionally since I was 16. It's been quite enjoyable. I typically work in HO, but have had a lifelong interest in N, since my parents gave me an N scale set at 3. 22 years after my first N scale set, I'm continuing my modeling interests into other fields in addition to N, such as Traction (HO) and narrow gauge (On30 & HOn30).

I'm mostly known for my weathering, and I heard you guys give honest critiques, so that really piqued my interests. I want to sharpen my modeling skills.

Well, mainly M.C. Fujiwara suggested I join this site after we met up at a trainshow and then saw my modelwork. Thanks for helping me get on here and past the buggy Registration process, M.C. and admins!
