Well...

My name is Travis, I sometimes frequent trainboard (whining isn't allowed), still can't get a user name with atlas forum, after stumbling upon this board, it looks like we are free to whine and complain and get off topic as much as we like. In all reality though, I live in the great state of Iowa, doing mostly N scale. No empire built just yet but it is in the works. I am a mediocre modeler at best, and I like to watch trains run around and around and around. I am a expert arm chair CEO for N scale manufacturers with all my suggestions making no sense whatsoever. I mostly attempt to model modern UP trains, with lots of DCC, and running long DPU'ed trains on N Track. Some of my other interests include boating, fishing, hunting and annoying my spouse (though she will play trains as well!) That's me in a nut shell

Hi all, just found the Railwire while looking for trackplans.  I've been interested in model railroading for most of my adult life, and have started a few HO layouts.  None every really got past having track down. After running operations on a friends N scale layout, I was impressed with how it ran, and decided to switch.  My N scale collection is small at the moment as I'm concentrating on getting my layout finished.  I had the opportunity to buy a friend's an incomplete layout (benchwork done and some track) for really cheap.  The layout is a reproduction of the Clinchfield of MR fame. My room is 9' x 20' leaving only 18" of outside aisle space.  It will make switching Dante yard a cramped affair if I ever finish laying track.

My primary interest is operations, and while the Clinchfield really isn't designed for serious operations (not enough industries IMHO), I plan on seeing how much I can get out of it once all the track is laid.

Given the layout size and my room dimensions, I'm considering starting a new layout, but would hate to "give up" the Clinchfield.

My non railroading interests are in practical shooting, both "real steel" and airsoft, and MUDs (got addicted in college).

You could always turn the Clinchfield "inside out" and make it a shelf layout around the room...

Welcome, Uncle Pete and Chris.

I hope you meant a "cramped" affair.  Welcome aboard nonetheless!

Hi there..

My name is Mark Dance and I model the CP's Boundary, Slocan and Kaslo subdivisions circa 1970 in N scale.  The layout has been under construction for nearly 5 years and is fully operational though only about 20% sceniced.  I have held a dozen or so operating sessions for up to 9 operators which I have enjoyed thoroughly.

I have been an n scaler for nearly 40 years with a big chunk taken out of that time for education and gainful employment.  I stepped back into the hobby 7+ years ago and the change in quality in N scale since I had departed has been just amazing.

A friend posted a link to videos of my layout on Railwire a month or so ago which is how I find myself here now.  I did subscribe to Railwire a while ago but honestly never visited it.  Now that I have *unsubscribed* myself from a few Yahoo forums (due to their incessant bickering - names withheld to protect the guilty) I find myself here in search of shared information with less baggage attached.

Anyway that's my story...if you are interested in checking out my layout the link to the Youtube videos might be helpful.
http://www.youtube.com/user/markdance63 .  In the videos I try to explain all aspects of the design and construction of the layout as well as giving a bit of a helicopter tour.  I have completed another 10' of scenery since these videos were shot and will post updates in the next couple of months so check back in if the layout videos are of interest to you.

Kind regards...

Mark,
Are you in Vancouver BC, or Washington?  I was out in Portland, OR a few weeks ago, and met up with Rob Carey and Rick Ernest... They mentioned that there's a few other N layouts, including in Vancouver, Wa, but the owners had gone down to California for some sort of train meet.
