If you like, introduce yourself, tell us your interests, and tell us how you got here and why you signed up. :)
My name is Ken and I'm a train addict.  I'm not into N yet, still Horribly Oversized - but I didn't see any other thread for making introductions so here I am.

I live in Woodstock, MD, within a mile of the OML.  My so-called 'home' forum [modelrailroadforums] is populated mostly by guys from Alabama and Canada.  I was envious of them because they were close enough to each other to have op sessions.  Then railBuilderDave told me about this site, he said there were a bunch of modelers from Maryland and NoVA on here.  Lee W. (wm3798) invited me to an op session at his house on the Shore and I met a few other guys from this forum during the visit.  Had more fun there than I've had in quite a while, the focus was mainly on having fun with running trains (not Model Railroad Olympics).  It reminded me of my days as a teenager at the BSME, those memories were what brought me back into the hobby after a 15-year layover.

Ken,
I'm glad to see you made it here.  I didn't realize you had joined here, guess I should have dropped you a line to see how you have been.  I'm glad to see you've met some of the guys here and made it out to some events to meet them and have a great time.  I've found I have less free time for the hobby then I like and my time posting has been affected by it.
Welcome,
rbDHD

Hi everyone,

I joined a couple of weeks ago but now seems a good time to emerge from the shadows and introduce myself. I linked to this forum from Ed Kapuscinski's "Conrail 1285" site (amazing scenery work there, btw). I've recently begun my first n scale railroad, which you can take a look at here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/81297937@N00/, but I'm also in the planning stages of a larger layout as well. So be prepared for lots of questions.

uh-oh...a Chessie fan. Stay away from this guy: wm3798 (Lee)

Welcome to Railwire. Have fun and ask lots of questions, we don't bite very hard.

BTW: Nice job on the scenery so far. Looks really good.

Heh heh, I fell in love with the Chessie on a trip down to VA back in the 80's (I'm from NY). But I'm also a Conrail guy too. Here's the pride of my fleet:

I just picked up another one recently, #4105. That's why I want a bigger layout, so I can run these guys on a long mainline with nice broad curves.

Thanks for the compliment  :)

Where in NY are you from? I'm from Queens. Conrail is cool. I run some at my club here in California. Conrail on Donner Summit! Nothing better. My fellow club members give me lots of crap about it though. I just kick their butts.

Long Island, not far from Port Jeff, the end of the northern branch of the LIRR. I wish there were an n scale club around here  :-\

There is a club near Sayville, not to far from you. There is a member here called Bobcat that is a member of that club. I'll PM you his email address.

Chris,

There is the Long Island Model Railroad Engineers as well - they are (used to be?) located in Medford.  Here is their website: http://www.limrre.com/.  I know they moved about two years ago, and have been working on getting their layouts up and running.  Oh, and they are both N and HO.  They also used to do some narrow gauge.

Aloha,

Thanks for the info! And here I was thinking model railroading was dead on Long Island. I'll contact them asap and see about joining up.

SOUPAC culd use some of the cotton ball trees - it's painfully obvious that they are missing - he could have an MR cover shot if he simply added those.  just sayin;

 ;D ;D

welcome aboard, get ready for a ride.

You know Steve I'd love to add some deciduous trees, but ...

Its even more painfully obvious that you've never been there. Count them up for me and let me know how many cotton balls YOU find...

Alcuin,
Love those 80MACs! We caught a pair of them here in Harrisburg, PA last week. One Black and one BIG BLUE! If you live out in PJ, you probably know about the Conrail caboose that was in Sands Point? That's the one my historical society saved last year. (www.thecrhs.org) Watch out for us CRHS guys, we're a handful. There's also a lot on here. GonzoCRfan, Ed K, me, Conrail 6055, Ian McMillan (when he sends us money..lol) and some others...
Welcome dude!
