Wazzou, you made an impression on me on the A-Forum with your gondola lowering IIRC - welcome!

With 4 kids and a fixer upper house, it's taken me a few years to get to this point, which for me is on the verge of laying track ...

I'm not into building model train layouts as much as I am into watching the real thing. This is mainly due to time constraints and lack of funding since I'm currently a freshman in college. I ran into NandW while visiting a train station near my school's campus.

As a child I modelled with "Brio" (the wooden trains made in....Denmark?) and then I got into Lego and started building cityscapes. A few years ago, I received a Lego train set, and have worked on expanding it, until I left for college.

I also have an HO gauge basic oval, but that hasn't seen the light of day for years since I have nowhere to put it.

In my spare time I occasionally play "Railroad Tycoon 3" but the 1-engine/8-cars limit make it extremely unrealistic.

I spotted him hanging around Halethorpe in a suspicious manner. I was about to phone Homeland Security when he came up and introduced himself as a "train nut".

Hi all! I'm Rick. I hang out here now and then. Mostly to see what new "do" Tom is wearing, and to see what sort of person sits around an thinks of new elements to try on  a perfectly good paint job to totally screw it up and then have it come out looking like its been sitting around since 1942. I mean why hasn't anyone come up with "sea salt" before now? What have we been thinking about anyway. Have we tried honey from the honey wagon yet? Muratic acid?

Can't browse here much or anywhere else for that matter. I've bitten off a big chunk in building my 36 x 15 N-scale Southern Pacific Cascade Route. Gotta get back at it...

Hah, I'm also a freshman in college.  The lack of money means that I either go for the really cheap stuff or I actually finish old projects.

College guys - sad to say but when I was in college I packed all my stuff up into a trunk and there it was dormant until years after college (my parents also moved out west at the same time, so I was forced to dismantle my layout). :-[

Hi All,
Been lurking over here for awhile now and found you all to be a nice bunch of modellers.
I spend time over at Trainboard (J Starbuck) and also a little on the A board (Skytop 47 there too).
I'm involved with the Northwestern Illinois Model Railroad Club which houses an HO layout as well as a 14 x 30 N scale work in progress.
N scale Milwaukee Road is my primary interest.
We're pretty loose as to era with everything from steam to dash9s and coal trains to passenger.
Other roads represented are CN, IC, C&NW, Wisc Central, Wisc Southern, and Soo. We're kind of a "run what you brung" group.
The only requirement: It has to be fun.

College guys - sad to say but when I was in college I packed all my stuff up into a trunk and there it was dormant until years after college (my parents also moved out west at the same time, so I was forced to dismantle my layout). :-[

I just finished university two years ago, and now I'm working for a software company, which means I can afford to buy trains again. Of course, I live alone with a cat in a tiny apartment so I don't have any room for a layout, so I just work on smaller projects and save up for the day when I am able to build the big layout. In the meantime, I spend my Wednesday nights working on the club layout, which will be vastly bigger than any basement layout I'll ever hope to build.
I had a 4x8 layout at my parents place when I was younger, but that's been taken down since I'm really never there anymore and when I can build a layout again, I'll want to do something a little better than the 4x8 I've had since high school.

SOUPAC culd use some of the cotton ball trees - it's painfully obvious that they are missing - he could have an MR cover shot if he simply added those.  just sayin;

 I model Conrail in HO and G scales. I'm also a Director with the Conrail Historical Society, Inc (www.thecrhs.org), not to be confused with the defunct Conrail Technical Society. I'm also a volunteer at the B&O railroad museum as an Engineer.
