Good morning Ladies? and Gents!

My name is Nathaniel, and I began modeling in HO back in the day as a youngster up until I graduated High School.  Took a long hiatus as I was in the Marine Corps Infantry and got my Bachelor's and Master's after my discharge.  Got back into it about a year ago and decided to go with N Scale since I always liked how much you could fit into such a small space.  Had a good little 10'x11' going last year before I had to tear it down because we moved.  Planning a new layout now with some steamers, early diesels, and a new Athearn Big Boy I found out my lady was getting me for Christmas. (Shhhhh....). Still debating weather or not I should go prototypical UP between Ogden and Cheyenne or fictional so I'd have more freedom with it.  I also like the Durango-Silverton line as I grew up in Durango as a kid.  Now in San Diego.

On this site to see what everyone else was modeling, seeking advice, and to learn.  Nice to meet you all!

Nathaniel,
Welcome!  The next coffee pot will be ready shortly, and we have a nice fire going in the pot belly stove, so you can take those mittens and that scarf off if you like.  Plenty of N Scale action around these parts - best to just throw up what ya got and get goin.

Yes, welcome to you Nathaniel. Nice to have another UP fan on here to defend against the SPFs! (Slobbering Pennsy Foamers :D )

San Diego? I could think of worse places to live. It sounds like you're new to the area and haven't yet had the pleasure of dealing with the perpetual gloom of marine layer haze between March and June. The sacrifices one makes for 60° days, day after day after day after day...

You had a chance yet to check out the N scale club in Balboa Park, even if just to see the layout? Go to http://www.sdmrm.org and look for "San Diego Society of N Scale" under the club links.

Thank you gentlemen!  Been here in SD since 2005.  Just been both working and going to school, so there hasn't been much time for hobbies until lately.  I've been to SDSONS a few times, and have tried to find time to join the club, but Friday nights are nearly impossible when it's also the first chance you have in the week for family and friends.  The layout is epic, and I've been able to run a couple of my Ten Wheelers around it during the few meetings I have attended.  Definitely planning on getting more involved after the new year.  Thank you for the great welcome, and I'm looking forward to learning from you all!

hello all, did a little introduction on my other post but ill add a bit more here...

First my name is TJ, I am 30 years old.
I live in Arizona( so anyone know any good clubs, hobby shops etc in the valley area let me know)
been a train buff for 28 of my 30  years lol.
modeler for 20 years. primarily interested in 0n2 Maine 2 footers, so hence a lot of scratch building( my favorite part of the hobby)
N scale has been a off and on sort of thing for me for a long time. Mainly 80's era AT&SF(what I remember as a child) but Japanese steam has hit me pretty hard and I am actually planning my 2nd n scale layout as a shelf switching layout along two walls of my studio. It was going to be a AT&SF themed but now I am going Japanese for the prototype  :D either way it will be all hand laid code 40 and all scratch built structures etc to keep me busy

Greetings everyone,

I've been lurking on the forum for a while and my request to join was recently accepted. I was fairly active on the TB N scale forum in the early part of this year, but then the layout I had begun to put together ground to a halt and model railroading took a back seat to other things for a while. I'm back in the game again, with a simpler and hopefully more manageable 36x80 HCD plan to work with. I'm mainly interested in CSX with an emphasis on coal hauling. My local Long Island Railroad is a pretty boring operation, so CSX was the next closest thing to home. I'm certainly not an expert modeler by any stretch (I've already sinned against the standards of excellence of this forum by deciding on clunky code 80 instead of code 55, mainly because I wanted to use Peco streamline turnouts with their spring-loaded points; I once built a small layout with Caboose ground throws and I hated them), but I look forward to a lot of good discussion.

I just had this forum recommended to me by my friend MC Fujiwara.  I usually just stick to nscale.net but he said this place has a very good n scale sub-forum, along with a lot of n scale modellers around my neck of the woods.  I see a lot of cool layouts, news, and generally nice pictures here so I think I can add this to the list of forums I check regularly!

Welcome. An endorsement by Master Fujiwara is indeed high praise. And what pray tell is your neck of the woods?

How do I set my avatar and location if and all that?  I can't seem to figure it out,  I click on profile but it only tells me some stats, no place to edit.

On e you get 20 or 25 posts many things will unlock including your avatar. I don't recall the location stuff but that may be part of it.

Ah, well I'm in Victoria BC,  MCF told me there's a few N scalers in the Vancouver area that might be able to help me out with peco track.  I really just came to beg for peco scraps but this looks like a good place :)

Hey, Baro / Jarren!

Good to see you finally take the great leap into becoming an A$$hat!
I know the whole A$$hat community can all benefit from your fab modern urban kitbash/scratch cityscapes, as well as all your in-street running, so I hope we can help out with the new and "environmentally/landlord friendly" layout.

You'll find many other "perfectionists" here  :D
(Not me though, as you well know: just get the damn layout built with enough attention to proto-detail that makes it look good! Have effing fun, I say!)

There's not much sugar-coating on this forum, so rise to the challenge like I know you can.
Looking forward to seeing what magic you make, and as soon as I get my passport re-upped careful I might show up and kick your A$$hat layout into no-excuse gear  :scared:

Rock on!

Is this a fussier more perfectionist forum? Because I like a place where I can get polite but critical feedback.  If something I post looks bad or can be improved I hope people will point it out.  I don't need a hug-box (although hugs are nice) I need a peer review!

You found the right place. We sometimes give hugs too, but not too often.  ;)

Hello to All,

Just registred and hollering from The Netherlands.
Found the site earlier, but it got lost somewhere in cyber space, and founsd it back through MRH forums, by accident!

Reason why I signed up, is the "quiet"l ayout of the site, without all the advertizemment and pop ups etc etc.. and there is a special niche for the N scale...

Getting close to retirement in March 2014, I am now in the position of finally completing a layout, that has been started and stopped quite some times, this due to the work situation (relocations, long time abroad, while working in the  in the dredging industry for 40+ years now, hence my AKA.)
Playing around with trains since my 3rd year (will scan a photo that shows), the usual way with Maerklin at first and in the late 70's started with N scale...and still do.
European prototype equipment was soon replaced by my interest in US prototype, because I lived and worked in the uSA for 6.5 year in the early 80's,...
Looking foreward to build that layout that never got finished, and may a plan further, still have to go over the givens and druthers...but basically have a part build up (track/ wirning, but have to clear the rest of the benchwork as to get going with further track laying .

So looking foreward to learn from others and not to be too shy to ask a question, would be nice to meet you here.

BTW, wishing everybody a Merry Cristmas and a Healthy, Prosperous New Year
