Hi all: My screen name is GrampysTrains, because that's what my kids and grandkids call my layout. Dave Vollmer recommended this forum to me. My layout is based on the PRR, with a Reading RR branch, in HO scale. The modeled locale is South Central Pa. in the 1955-1965 time frame. This is my first layout, and I've been working on it going on four yrs. As soon at I figure out how to post photos, I will.

Force a change to a Chessie-themed Forum skin.  That'd scare some of 'em off :)

Grampy, you should post some of your work here...!  It's really well done.  Really nails the Pennsy feel; everything is tied together with a very consistent level of detail and muted colors.

I invited Grampy over here from Trains.com.  I still participate over there (morbid curiousity?), but were that my only forum, I'd have gone nuts by now.  Without digressing too far from the purpose of this thread, I'd say my biggest problem with Trains.com is that the good modeling is usually drowned out by a chorus of self-congratulatory medicority that defies understanding.  There are a number of very good modelers over there, as well as some who are new but improving by leaps and bounds...  but a vocal few seem stuck in a crap-flavored self-licking ice cream cone.

FWIW, I stay over there because 1. there are often very talented folks that show up (i.e., Grampy) and 2. I think there's some value in trying to raise the standards in what's probably the most popular forum for newbies.  Wouldn't want the hobby to lose prospective modelers because of the asshattery that permeates that site.

Anyway, welcome aboard Grampy!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, esp. Dave for steering me over here. I'm not quite sure where or how to post photos on this site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Grampy,
The best way to post photos is to upload them to a free host like www.photobucket.com. Once you've done that, you can post them here by using the [img ] tag (without the space between the "g" and the "]". So it would look something like this (without the capital "X"s:

[imgX]www.photobucket.com/pics/gt122/photoofyourtrains.jpg[/imgX]

Or, if you'd like to email me, I can post them for you.
My email is Russ.Swinnerton@TheCRHS.org

Don't worry, we'll cross you over to Conrail just as we did with Dave! :)

Agreed! I especially like the weeds to the left of the road. Well done!
