If you can live with the too-short body height and excess height over the rails, they look pretty good.  The weathered runner-pack will do well for them if it becomes a regular issue.

Not entirely...

The close cars are in the modern Railbox scheme, which was a lighter, paler yellow. The original RailBox was a nice bright primary yellow. Which after 30-40 years weathered to the dark, golden-yellow colour you see on the far cars.

I once thought I had "enough" with 8. Then I counted Railboxes one day railfanning the BNSF. I was about 40 shy of the average number seen.

Don't forget about the IM Railboxes as well. Those are a complete different car that made up a large class of RBOXes.

My C&HV uses a lot of ABOX and RBOX boxcars as well as Railgons..

So,I have 10 single box RBOX cars..

I ordered the set to split with a friend of mine.  So if they aren't sold out at my dealer I'll have a couple of them. 

I almost view Railboxes as unit cars since they are so common.  Unit train cars get a little bit more of a "pass" for me on fidelity since I'd prefer them to be on the cheaper side.   These obviously aren't cheaper, but it's by virtue of the graffiti and weathering, which I'm willing to pay for.   I look at these as Atlas Trainman or MDC cars ($9) that I put MTL trucks/couplers on ($4) and paid someone to tag and weather ($7).  I would love to see the day where these get kicked off my 600 car roster for being the most unprototypical but in the mean time they'll do.   

I will comment about the ubiquitousness of these Railbox cars.   Even today, it is pretty shocking how common they are.  Of course right now there's a long string of them mucking up the railfanning opportunities in downtown Fort Worth so I'd love to see those cut up!

ex-NHIR, built by U.S. Railway Equipment (Evans Products subsidiary - Evans took over SIECO and after that this design could be built by Evans, SIECO or USRE/USEX. Similar to the Athearn Genesis SIECO car but with non-terminating ends.

The recent ExactRail Evans boxcar in HO scale would be a match for these two cars with some slight modification to the side sill.

I must 60 or 70 different Railbox cars. In watching a train go by 99% of them have a Railbox car in it.. Some 4,5,6,7 or even 8.. So you see you can never have enough.. ;D
