Right, for the current era, Hubert's has the National Steel Car FBOX and Athearn has a Gunderson TBOX (in HO at least, has it also been released in N? I don't know).

FBOX cars are 50' high cube single plug door cars.
TBOX cars are 60' high cube double plug door cars.
These cars are built by National Steel Car, Gunderson (Greenbriar) and Trinityrail.

Yes, in fact they have done THREE modern Railbox cars:

 - TBOX by NSC
 - (2) FBOXes - one with the wider door, one with the narrower door

The fboxes have the sort of waffled sides...

I didn't mention the TBOX, since we were talking 50' cars. But since the topic's been broached…

Does anyone make 60' Railbox cars of some sort, in N?

Also, related to Railbox, I should mention the LFB (don't think Huberts did these yet) Railgon issues. A fantasy scheme in their 65' mill gon (but it sure looks nice, I got a couple) and Athern did a "close enough at 3' " 50 footer.

Those Railgon 65' gons were not a fatansy scheme I have see plenty of the prototype ones.

LBF did the 60' TBOX boxcar, and 2 versions of the FBOX because I have all 3 models. MT has also done both 4 RBOX and at least 2 ABOX cars.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

The SIECO car is nice, but Railbox didn't have any of these AFAIK.

Well, what do ya know:

ex-NHIR, built by U.S. Railway Equipment (Evans Products subsidiary - Evans took over SIECO and after that this design could be built by Evans, SIECO or USRE/USEX. Similar to the Athearn Genesis SIECO car but with non-terminating ends.

Mirco-Trains has a "runner pack" coming out in August.

I also have some really old KD railbox cars that are
worth something like a grand each! :-* ::)

Micro-trains really does boggle my mind.

Why are they coming out with those as a "runner pack" when Atlas has currently available a much more accurate model of a VERY similar car for half of what MTL is charging?

Oh, right, cause MTL doesn't "get" modelers...

Yes, they are still cutting up RailBox cars in Sharpsburg, PA.  This town is located on the Conrail Conemaugh Line just northeast of Pittsburgh.  There are not that many cars awaiting the torch the last time I looked.  I will be going over the bridge over the scrap yard this weekend.  I will take a look.  Thanks.

Basically, what I'm running into is a lack of storage space.

Ed, I got plenty of space in the new apartment. You can store them there.  ;D

OK, so now MTL is doing a weathered/tagged runner pack.  At ~$20/car street it is "intriguing".   Their weathering has been getting better although one of them looks pretty "cooked".  I don't need a lot more boxcars but if I do it would be Railbox cars.  So assume I'm not averted to (MTL) pre-weathering, consider the $20 within reason, and otherwise need Railbox cars.  Thoughts?

As an aside, how many of the Trainman Railbox cars have been released?  I think I only have one.

$20 = ouch for me.

As an aside, how many of the Trainman Railbox cars have been released?  I think I only have one.

See prior posts, and the fall catalog, where Atlas lists 4 road numbers (2 large Railbox (early) and 2 small RailBox)).

Wow, we dug deep to resurrect this one!

Yes, resurrected but it had all the relevant info so I figured no sense in rehashing everything.  But I still didn't get a solid feel for how close the MTL cars were to something in reality.  Are they squashed like many of the MTL cars?   The more I look at them the more I'm thinking "pass" but I do like the prospect of some already weathered filler cars.
