If you go with a wood load, then just add a mesh cinder catcher to the stack. Sort of like this:

Note that it has a straight stack. BTW, one of the last common carriers to use wood was the Mississippi & Alabama,which used a straight stacked 2-6-2 until about 1950. The line was abandoned still using wood as fuel.

Hi Tom,

The trick is to use a very sharp Exacto or Excel blade to lightly scrape the seam. Scrape until it disappears, and then use a sanding stick(the ones with the foam middle) with a fine grit sand paper, lightly wet-sand the seam just to smooth the area.

Ed, I'm not that gifted to remove the parting line on the stack.  It does bother me, but I would only leave a flat spot or file it down to nothing. ;D

Tom, there are three very minor things that render the final product just shy of perfection. They all deal with illumination. The classification  lamps, just behind and beside the headlight, should have clear or white lenses to the front, and yellow or red to the side. The headlight itself should have clear glass almost flush with the front. The two boxes on the side of the headlight are numberboards, the same as those on a Diesel, and should have the number on glass, either white or black or black on white. White on black was far more common on steam headlights, though.

Other than that, looks like steam should be oozing from every pore!

Sorry, Ed,  but a woodburner with a straight stack was really quite common, with the cinder-catching screen in the smokebox itself. The last woodburning common carrier, the Mississippi & Alabama, had a straight stacked 2-6-2.

It was logging engines that sported balloon or Rushton stacks - loggers didn't want to set the woods on fire, no matter what the lokeys burned.
